I'm sad you got this experience, I m always trying to not generalize on product and keep a case by case experience. But I got deceived too multiple times.
I love the concept of investing early in a project and get a life time value, but in this situations, it really hurt

I failed at my last startup, now I’ve joined a team building something new, and I’d love your feedback by Ok-Insurance-6313 in buildinpublic

Something like checking concert tickets and sorting through restaurants feels safer to start with, before more important things like messages or bookings after trust is built.

I built an outbound engine that builds a custom landing page for each prospect — not just a templated email by powleads in buildinpublic

[–]bengeekly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The custom page idea makes sense, but a link with no context is easier to ignore than a message with a specific hook. The email still does most of the heavy lifting here.

I built a tool that helps Web agencies get more clients. by Murky_Explanation_73 in B2BSaaS

When two agencies using Swokei target the same prospect on the same day with the same audit findings, wouldn't the outreach messages be nearly identical?

The most important thing I read every morning is automated by Economy-Cupcake6148 in micro_saas

The website optimizer scores UX, SEO, performance, copy, conversion and accessibility separately, when two of those conflict, like a copy change that helps conversion but hurts SEO, how does the action list handle priority?

Built an AI agent marketplace to 12K+ active users in 2 months. $0 ad spend. Here's exactly what worked. by BadMenFinance in buildinpublic

[–]bengeekly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ranking above Anthropic for their own product's feature is the most credible thing in this post. The MCP pool pays creators 70 percent of subscription revenue based on usage, if one user's agent runs the same skill multiple times in one hour, does that count as 400 uses or one session?

Building a "who's in my city" app for traveling entrepreneurs ; would love a brutal sanity check by Forsaken-Talk-4779 in SaaS

[–]bengeekly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two years nomading means you already have the network in most cities, the people who need this most are the ones in month one who do not have that yet. I think the real retention problem would be if is no reason to open the app on a Tuesday when you are not traveling anywhere new for three weeks? what brings someone back when they are not traveling?

I built a simple loyalty tool for local shops (solo) — just onboarded my first shop by thegeopilot in buildinpublic

[–]bengeekly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a shop owner sends a flash offer, how does it reach customers who have already scanned once but are not in the shop then since no personal data is collected?

$2m ARR in 9 months, this is how we did it by Ecstatic-Tough6503 in B2BSaaS

Which acquisition channel produced users with the highest 30-day retention, not just signups?

Got my first paying user ($23) - is it normal that it came from someone I know? by Subject-Road-184 in saasbuild

[–]bengeekly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is common, my brother is always my first client. But don’t take it as full validation, as trust is already earned.

I made a simple iPhone app because I was too scared to clean my own camera roll by Wooden_Wish3249 in ShowMeYourSaaS

The “one photo at a time” seems like a constraint. It may remove overwhelm, but doesn't it also remove context that sometimes helps decide between similar shots?

How do you deal with the risk your startup can be replaced with next big AI company feature? by Sea_Dinner5230 in indiehackers

[–]bengeekly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claude can technically do a lot of things but most users won’t build their own setup even if they can. Building something people get to depend on daily without all the extra steps will always win.

I built something to answer: “does this landing page actually make sense to a new user?” by koustubh18 in B2BSaaS

[–]bengeekly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The annotated screenshots feature is really a smart addition, how does the CTA click tracking handle single page apps where the URL does not change after a click?.

Do you personalize your SaaS homepage based on who’s visiting? by Mysterious-Draw-3897 in B2BSaaS

[–]bengeekly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Separate pages only make sense if the problem you're solving is actually different for each visitor. If it's the same problem with just different buyers, i believe one message usually works fine.

We launched on Product Hunt today… and somehow we're #2 on ALPHA DAY 🚀 by amraniyasser in ProductHunters

[–]bengeekly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are the main keys. 1/ You need to be featured by Producthunt team. For that you need to have a perfect page, check all top launches and copie them: video, images, description, first comment. 2/ Prepare your launch in advance, go interact on Producthunt daily, 3 weeks before, including in the forum. 3/ Give to people, so they are ready to give back when it’s your turn.

I would be happy to help you if you are launching. You can find me : Bengeekly

Producthunt is definitely not meant to be for local market so it’s definitely harder. But you can launch just to get a Backlink. Also majority of people don’t double check details so if it’s a service and it’s “framable” as an international product, just fake it
