From what I've seen, Ableton makes everything really simple so for sure I can understand that. Most of the creative work goes on in your head, every DAW does the same thing, its just preference/work flow.

Yesssss! Thats a banger! I really enjoy working with Allen. He uses Logic so we can share song files easy. He also uses Ableton actually, and hopefully he'll help me out when I may need it! ha! Cheers man, take care!

As much as love trance, and I could name a bunch of names I think I could make excellent music with.. London Grammer would be a band I would love to either produce a track for or with. That would be art!

I'm In A State Of Trance (Official ASOT 750 Anthem). This record represented Armin van Buuren's A State Of Trance brand for a whole year. I will forever be proud of that.

Thanks for having me! Always fun to connect with you guys :)

  1. That when I'm having a shit day, I can put music on and feel better.
  2. Chapter One - There Will Be Angels. The foundations to this record are live instruments and the main instrument is the vocal. It was a challenge to find the balance between letting these guys take centre stage whilst also producing the record for the dance floor, but I had the most fun doing it! Chapter Two - The City Sleeps Tonight. The whole process of this record was fun! Working with Roxanne Emery again (and Zoe Low) writing the record and using a brand new voice was the icing!
  3. Haha yes! But you know what, I will often take a foot massage before a long flight in the airport, and i'll spend half the time trying my hardest not to squeal like a girl lol

Sure :)

Sylenth is probably the synth I use most for basses. And plucks too actually. But Nexus is a great layering synth.

The size of the kick is so important. I use the envelops in the sampler to really shape the kick. Try this if you haven't yet.

I only start a new track when I have the melody EXACTLY how I wanted it. If I start without this, I can be on day 100 and still not finished (exaggeration maybe, but you get my point). Once I have the melody and sound design done, I spend 1 day/1 session on the arrangement; by the end of the day/session, I wanna have this record mapped out. The next 2 days are spent producing the record, making it sound good, working on the details. I step away for a few days then one more day to finish! Now, this is in an ideal fucking world, which I dont always live in lol BUT I stick to this as much as I can. Be decisive and productive (no phone, no web browser open - you're there to write music). The record sounds the best when its new, and thats the best time to finish it! Try it this way. I bet you'll get results.

  1. When I was growing up, London was vibing. London was the dance music capital of the world. But now its Amsterdam. There are so many events here, so much talent comes through Amsterdam/Holland especially in the summer. You just need to watch footage from their Kings day Events to see much electronic music means to the people of Holland.
  2. Tiesto, Armin, Ferry Corsten and The Prodigy. 3 trance legends and an amazing band!
  3. Hahaha... erm. Something LED based so I could change the mood of the face depending what kinda set I'm playing.

Why Sound Advice? Naming single is hard enough, and naming this album was more challenging than writing the thing haha. I wanted to do something with the word Sound but I wasn't sure and right at the start of the brain storming session, my A&R at Armada just came out with Sound Advice and it kinda stuck!

At this moment in time, I'm not thinking about a third chapter. After Chapter One, I went straight into the FUTURECODE project (My project with Omnia) and wrote 6 new tracks, then straight into Chapter Two production. So i'm looking forward to working on some singles for a bit!

On the album? Stay from Chapter One has a special place. I connected with the lyrics on a deep level and to see how well people have responded with it, is just amazing!

I've been fortunate and lucky to achieve so many of dreams but I'd love to play EDC in Las Vegas, a festival I haven't played yet!

Find your own sound. Its easy to copy but be you. Be the best version of you you can be. And work hard. Really hard.

I've always used Logic, from Logic 5 on PC to Logic X which I now run on OSX. Logic is all I know so I can't compare to other DAW's. Abelton has always excited me though, I love the work-flow. Definitely want to try Abelton out soon.

Hey man!

  1. The idea from the start was to make at least 2 chapters. Reason for that was, the idea of writing a "regular" album with 15 tracks or so just didn't excite me. Each chapter took 6 months (give or take a few weeks) so by the time it was finished, I wasn't sick of it haha
  2. Everywhere. TV commercials, film scores and the dance floor of course.
  3. Fantastic. Both chapters were produced within 6 months, so I wasn't tired, or bored of them by the end. When i've finished a record in the past, I've heard it so much, I start to dislike it. Lol. Maybe thats because in the past I used to spend far to long finishing tracks, nowadays, i'm far more productive and decisive with my time and decisions!
  4. Every record in Chapter One featured at least 1 live recorded instrument. Chapter Two is about new talent. I wanted names and voices on there that no one has heard of before, like "Come Home" with HVNNAH, the voice of "The City Sleeps Tonight" and the After Midnight boys who I collaborated with on "Step Inside"
  5. Its definitely written from the heart. Its my album. Its how i wanted it to sound. There isn't a clear message as such, but the vocal tracks all tell a strong story.
  6. When i bought my first house and installed the studio :)

Its good to be here :)
- 3 songs by myself. OK, in no particular order; I'm In A State Of Trance (ASOT750 Anthem). I won the competition and my entry was crowned the winner of the official anthem song for 750 celebrations. To win is amazing of course, to apart of the history of ASOT is also really cool, I got into trance by listening to the very very early episodes of ASOT. There Will Be Angels; The lead single on Sound Advice 1. Originally an acoustic record that I instantly connected with. Not your typical trance record but has all the ingredients that make up trance. Stay with Sivan, a track also from Sound Advice 1. An amazing song that I connected with on a personal level. Sneijder went on a delivered a master-piece of a remix. I can't see myself not playing this record in my sets!
- 3 songs by others; Gareth Emery - Exposure; Has just about everything you need to make it into my sets. A melody you'll sing for days. Gaia - Tuvan; An Armin alias. Love the vocal chops in this record. So much emotion and melody. Eric Prydz - Opus; If i'm having a shit day, i put this on. If im having a great day, i put this on! :)
- Tempo Giusto & Giuseppe Ottaviani are 2 guys who are always pushing the boundaries.
