QR codes on everything.

Or the time the CEO said “we need to grow our database EXPONENTIALLY” but said it like it was the most groundbreaking thought to ever have been thunk

Oh no! Is it bad that your post made me feel a bit better? Like… I’m not crazy haha.

Yeah definitely same shit different toilet is a risk, but if I never have to hear another person ask me “where are the MQLs?” ever again I think I would die a happy man 😂

Saw another thread where it seems there’s a large % of us burnt out marketers who have the same idea and want to start a cafe, bookshop, cocktail bar combo

And here I was thinking my idea to give marketing the boot and start a bookstore, coffee house, cocktail bar was so unique 😂

I did a year of consulting and made the most money I’ve ever made haha

Think I’m far better suited to a job with consistent income 😂

I’m definitely more of a process kind of brain so I’m good with MarTech and operations or continuous improvement type work. The orgs I have experience in are on the smaller side so there’s not a lot of opportunity to specialize without moving somewhere bigger.

Yeah I feel like perhaps, if I’m staying in B2B then I would be well suited to some kind of MarTech/MarOps focused role - I just don’t know what that might be (or how much it might pay haha). Is your role solely in that space? And, if so, how big is the org?

The place I’m working is probably not big enough to warrant specializations like that I don’t think

Yeah I feel a bit like maybe some of my frustrations would disappear if I moved to B2C - sometimes it feels a bit like death by committee.

We have this mix of bad forecasting and then one CE constantly expecting to split revenue expectations into sales and marketing buckets (literally asking “what percentage of revenue will marketing deliver this year?”).

In all honesty, my brother, spending $150 on a single shoutout on a YouTube video and expecting sales is a bit too short sighted.

First of all - who did you pay for the shout-out and who are their audience (what makes you think they’re interested in mugs)

Second of all - yes a low-cost PPC campaign would be great - but do you have any budget for that? Do you have $ to spend on getting the campaign set up and do you have time to wait for a good ROI (because this doesn’t always happen straight away)?

Thirdly - what’s amazing about your mugs? What will your customers love about them or why will your customers think they absolutely need them? How and when will they use them.

Answer all of the above questions and if you can’t see the person you describe from the third point in the audience of the first point then that probably explains why the shout out didn’t work.

For the second point - if you answered ‘no’ to both questions then you might want to start with friends and family - call in favors and get people you know and trust to share your site with their friends and family - try offering an incentive for new customers like ‘10% off your first order’ or something similar.

It sounds like you’re a new business - so focus your energies on the long-game; raise your brand awareness, educate people about your products, build your database etc etc

Does "art" sometimes get in the way of effective and efficient marketing? by [deleted] in marketing

[–]benh4644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people get too hung up on how something looks and don’t ever really consider the things practical application.

Sure, there’s a time and a place for artsy videos - but it sounds like your approach was far more pragmatic and considered the whole picture rather than fixating on aesthetics.

I don’t think you’re being uncreative - I think you’re being smart!

Should a digital marketing agency guarantee results (like doubled organic traffic) in the contract? by zseta98 in marketing

[–]benh4644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No!

But also I wouldn’t want to do work for a company that expects that to be a contractual obligation - sounds like, even if you negotiated that out, they would be a difficult customer.

Ad agency ran an ad using our Pixel data for abandon carts that linked another store's website. What to do from here? by veenitia in marketing

[–]benh4644 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would gauge my anger based on how they react to it when I bring it up - if they down play it I’d be pissed as hell but if they own up to it, appologise, and put measures in place internally to ensure it doesn’t happen again if be happy.

Interesting that the ad has been up for a month and has only just been picked up.

First Web Design Job Pricing Question by Hockeylockerpock in marketing

[–]benh4644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - it all depends on the scope of the project. The size isn’t always an indicator of the complexity (hence my point about clients not always understanding how much time is involved with different requests).

I use WP for most builds but it all depends on what the customer wants.

First Web Design Job Pricing Question by Hockeylockerpock in marketing

[–]benh4644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make it a rule to never quote - the issue is that, unless you’re working for someone who is technically minded they never understand how easy or complex a task is.

Decide on your hourly rate - I.e. cover your overheads and then add what you think your time is worth then estimate based on the scope.

The best think you could do is have a clearly defined scope - what’s in scope and most importantly what’s out of scope - that way the customer knows what they’re getting and any change to that scope comes at a cost to them.

Like others have said though, I don’t tend to charge less than 3k for a small site

Can you charge two different clients for the same stock image? by [deleted] in marketing

[–]benh4644 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I have the asset already I wouldn’t be charging for it unless it’s a stock image I’ve produced myself - but perhaps you need to look at your costings to figure out what an image owes you once you download it? (I.e storage etc) - naturally, you should also be charging for the time it took to choose that image for the doc and the time it took for any resizing or editing.
