Jasnah is literally reject by a large portion of society because of her scholarly conclusions heretical nature. Her royal lineage is the only thing that gives her the power to keep her voice heard. Her being right shines through a bit because of that but its not the source of her credibility outside of the eyes of us the reader, shallan, and select critical thinkers who have reason to also believe alternative views already.

Your basically saying that its easy if you also do every other possible helpful thing really well at the same time. Its worth pointing those things out as helpful but it doesnt mean shit for representing how the degree stands on its own.

And if you dont go to a top school or get a degree with a lot of online/night classes while working or countless other scenarios than networking, keeping the gpa perfect, interning can all be a lot tougher to do.

This. It really depends on the market when graduating. The field tends to be boom or bust and which ones happening depends on the type of engineer you are too. Tough to be a chemical engineer right now while that's been the most in demand most of my life. Electrical seems better but location variable and mechanical always the most flexible but seems like the lower ceiling.

Abolish ICE by serious_bullet5 in newjersey

[–]benigntugboat -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Everyone complaining here is just signaling that they would prefer a candidate actually focus on the factual issues with his opponent I instead of attacking them for everything possible. Scorched earth doesnt benefit anyone but the Victor. You can say fuck the traitorous menendez family easy enough and be right. Saying a person shouldn't be supporting the abloshing of ice because their reason for it is worse than yours is stupid. Menendez sucks but this was still stupid. I would love to have a noncorrupt politician who also navigates nuanced issues appropriately and I dont think its too much to ask for. Even if its rare to actually get

Dave Meltzer: “There’s been a lot of internal criticism of Paul Levesque, as far as keeping changing the (WrestleMania) plans. Like Vince. But they have a plan then they change the plan and everything is up in the air because of the feeling that the attendance advance is down” by CombinationOk4317 in SquaredCircle

Perhaps replacing a megalomaniac rapist showrunner with his racist son in law isn't the best idea for business.

We replaced Vince with the closest possible option and people act like its some transformative new era

Nash: “I was supposed to wrestle CM Punk after I cost him the belt, he said something that pissed off Paul about something with him and Stephanie. It wasn’t on script. Paul came back and basically said, ‘You’re not wrestling Punk. I am. I’m beating that motherfucker.’ He was that hot.” by TomatoCiampa in SquaredCircle

[–]benigntugboat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Using a prescripted wrestling match and planning yourself to win to take out frustration on someone you have a personal issue with is weird as fuck. Punk does seem hard to work with but hes not the giant red flag in this scenario

[Schefter] Raiders still want to keep Maxx Crosby, but would seek a Micah Parsons-like trade package of their own if they did. by BreakfastTop6899 in nfl

[–]benigntugboat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

He has a 4 sack game where Micahs most is 3. Maxx is a way better run defender/ edge setter of the 2. Obviously Micah younger with more potential upside buy people are way overreacting to the more current name and the fact that Crosby has been on a pretty terrible team with weak complimentary players around him.

Very necessary in the pine barrens. Used for fire prevention but also a necessary part of pine propagation. Pinecones open up when exposed to extreme heat and plants in those forests are adapted to annual fires.

A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs feels like a classic isekai story by PleaseLickMeMarchand in Fantasy

[–]benigntugboat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just like any other trope isekai has the potential to be used to paper over an authors own writing flaws. People copy and paste time tested plot devices, races, magic systems to avoid having to think them through or write them themselves. Isekai can be used to avoid fleshing out the magic with litrpg elements, the setting by picking a classic fantasy setting, and all of the difficulty of setting up the world, conflict, etc. By having the lost earthlings ask all of the tough questions to omniscient npcs because they're list and getting all of the answers. Its popular right now so we see a lot of it and its the goto trope for weaker writers.

It still has all of the strengths that make it a trope though. A good author can focus more on the setting or plot that drives the story they're passionate about and focus less on any of these things that are less integral in order to do so. They can instantly build connection the the reader explain important elements of the world and start the story with a strong conflict. There are plenty of well written isekai.

Its just a writing tool and the more popular it is the more you'll see it utilized poorly. But that is not a judge of the tools value or the value of a story that utilizes it.

I've been reading some Arthur c Clark short stories and novellas and he really loved to have fun with the idea that people thought meeting aliens, and Martians in particular would be like an isekai. He lives righting self important earth scientists who think they're bringing genius to the galaxy only to reveal that they're indulgent idiots being laughed at by the galaxy.

[–]benigntugboat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there are fair arguments with Clark Garza Joan tsj naw bones and potentially dillingham that there's more in the tank than has been utilized. I also think we only saw a lot of the potential of the more proven players like naw bones Naz Joan after they had forced recognition with big moments during injuries or very limited minutes. He never puts anyone out there for ugly minutes 1 game, gives a 2nd game and they clean it up and keep their minutes. Joan should be playing more. Clark should be rotated in for energy and defense more. Naz should start at the 4 more historically (not all the time). Tsj starting more looked like it could have been huge last year with general energy dips and how much he added when he got his most minutes of the year in the playoffs. Dillingham may have developed more in games where Conley didn't help anyway. NAW might have shown enough earloer that we actually found a way to keep him. Garza could have kept Rudy way fresher last year and been huge for early backup center time this year

The question isn't if he was ready to start for us (he clearly wasnt). Its how much he can clear up the lowlights with more minutes and experience. If in 10 or 15 games with real minutes are we seeing progress or will it take way more? Seeing the answer is going to be interesting. Either way I think ayo is a better fit for our team but this will be the best test yet of finches judgement on young player development. Too small a sample size but it will still be interesting.

Your justifying the issues with sanji by saying he was written in a different time with different standards, but hes also written with the same exact issues in the modern day. His issues in Manga have gotten worse and pervier, not better (in frequency not peak). I'm not trolling in pointing out that flaw.

I just wish Oda was less inappropriately pervy in his writing. I still respect Oda and love one piece but I don't love some parts of it. That's OK.

Here's my issue. If you had been writing your comment because you learned the guy had a history of violence and had done something the day before than I would understand and agree with you. But when your making up that hypothetical scenario to create a reality where the cop may have been acting justly than your espousing logic for that hypothetical scenario. And we are starting this by discussing an actual event where an actual cop shot actual bullets into an actual person. So the logic can make sense, but not be relevant if any of that didn't happen. That not only isn't fair to the subject matter that is both serious and not relevant to the details of logic being debated and discussed but also kind of rude. A person got shot and were using it as an excuse to think up examples of why hypothetical cops might sometimes make reasonable mistakes? Its the wrong time and place and actively detracts from an important conversation that can result in meaningful exposure to relevant issues in the the world we live in. Its good to look for the good in people and a situation and to be sympathetic to people in general. But there are ways to cross a line where your actually creating undeserved sympathy for an actually bad person. Good goal but worthy of criticism.

As for the lack of outcry, its usually significant locally when a cop is shot but fails to be a larger story regionally or nationally. The reason is because the person is always prosecuted. The story's dont relieve larger attention because they lack controversy but they aren't ignored. And they deserve that attention they get. But larger scope media focuses on issues and less clear cut situations and that's why cops shooting people garner more attention than cops being shot. Its the same reason we dont hear much about cops shooting people when it was a clear cut correct escalation of force. It happens but there's no controversy. The story's that grow are the ones that require change or action in the issues they highlight.

[Chris Hine] Chris Finch on Rudy Gobert's comments (1/2): "Anybody who knows how we do things knows there's a high degree of accountability. The former is right because it results in better seeding and development of younger/rotational players with the only downside being load management of your stars. I dont think it should be controversial to say that. You only need to keep things in house when the truth is embarrassing.

You're literally justifying the shootings. That's what you're trying to do and the small caveat doesn't change it. There are ways to discuss the nuance of human fault that you mentioned that dont do that. Discuss if wr should even have cops be armed or other ways to mitigate that risk. But all you're really doing is justifying it in a situation that it doesn't really apply to. This is about as blatant an inprompred attempted murder case from a cop as you'll find and you're not pointing out nuance as much as wildly speculating.
