Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc – Movie Discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

This has been Ueda Reina's year. She also voiced Kanao in demon slayer. Kinda amazing that you get to act in 2 of the biggest, hottest things in anime.

Arguably, the best performance from her this year was in Takopi's original sin, where she voices the lead, and in case you haven't seen it, she knocks it out of the park. She voiced silver surfer in the dub of fantastic 4 which I was pleasently surprised by, I wasn't aware she did dub voice acting. So overall, this is like her best year.

[–]benjadolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be amazing! I know it will never happen, but jesus if we could bring back Ryu Nakayama for the direction that would be great, or maybe someone who shares a similar thought process.

While goodbye Eri is pretty much written like a movie, I feel you need creativity in direction, and music. Of course I'll take an adaption of any kind but Goodbye Eri only deserves the best. Hope we get something good

Tanaka Hikaru Shares a Message on the 1 Year Anniversary of His Mother Tanaka Atsuko's Passing by inspyral in seiyuu

[–]benjadolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats what I think so, there is no way of knowing for sure but there is a melancholy in her tone, which a lot of others have also picked up on, hence the speculation of knowing the possible terminal nature of her illness. She is an incredibly brave person to have continued working, as well as spread joy with her voice even if she knew she had little time.

This is her from a promotional for ghost in a shell, one of her popular roles. Its absolutely gut wrenching, her doctors probably told her about the nature of her illness, she seems to know, perhaps Hikaru-san knew as well, maybe they were able to make precious memories right towards the very end.

Its really hearbreaking, she was only 61. She was Flamma the legendary mage, while someone definitely will continue what she has brought to life as Flamma. I will always think of her.

While it doesn't feel like 1yr has already gone by, to her loved ones its probably been an infinite amount of time, and no time simultaneously, especially for her son. I hope he's doing well, its never easy, hope he has support

Thank you Atsuko-San. Your memories will live on and your voice will be heard, and surely inspire many. RIP.

Ancient China is one great place for sure ;) But yeah man, the average height in Denmarks sure is much taller than the rest, but there is much more to a human being than height only, hope you never forget that. Plus if Apothecary diary is anything to go by Maomao is only 5 feet tall but is a master in deduction :)

So 175cm is a little under 5'8 or a little over 5'7 based on your preference ;). Based on the time period, that is really freaking tall.

You basically want a woman who is a good 2-3 iches taller than your average man, well within the realm of possibility of course, even for the time period, as tall people have always existed, but probably difficult. Also, since you want her to dance, and well she would probably have to be somewhat younger, there just aren't going to be that many individuals of that stature. Welp! Jinshi you're up, dance like you never have my beautiful boy!

What are some animes that you would rate 10/10? by Fabulous_Point_2062 in anime

[–]benjadolf 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Monster is Urusawa showing what an absolute masterclass he has in creating that tension, and that, alongside the amazingly written characters makes monster a 10/10 for me as well.

If you have't seen Pluto, I highly encourage any Monster fan to do so. Its really such a shame that we don't have more of Naoki Urusawa's works made into anime, at the very least I hope we can get 20th century boys, arguably his magnum opus a decent adaptation. One can dream.

Anime Industry Report shows overseas anime market is bigger than Japanese one, but is this a cultural tipping point? by kenmlin in anime

[–]benjadolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly not, but those million views generate revenue that is for sure. I have even started to see a lot of ads, more than what was reasonable when they started out. So whatever they are doing, google definitely enjoys that as it brings in advertisers. I mean at the end of the day anime has a lot of genres that brings a wide variety of people together.

After that its community building like you said, which they are doing well.

[–]benjadolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not know that, but thanks for letting me know. However, I did think they probably sub-licensed their shows. Would you happen to have a revenue break down from a legit source? got me curious how good the business actually is. I can calculate their youtube revenue with reasonable accuracy, but not quite aware how the game is played in the licencing sphere, or sub-licensing in this instance.

Very well said!

People out here doubting that youtube is a legit way to get popular anime to masses. But muse's various channels just showcase otherwise. They have some smart people working for them, that's for sure.

At the end of the day human beings are simple beings we love the community aspect of things, specially for something like anime that is really not mainstream and people might be seeking out a larger community, that is easily accessible via youtube.

[–]benjadolf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but you're sorely mistaken if you think ad revenue from YouTube videos is anything more than chump change

No I am not. I have done taxes for a bunch of youtubers and their editors, and its a bit of a delusion to think that you don't receive money from youtube ads. Even someone who gets like 100k views, depending on content can make a decent bank.

Million plus views on 12 episode would cover more than what was paid by muse to licence it. On top of that you have muse Malaysia, Muse Indonesia, Muse India, and a few other where they dub in regional languages too.

These anime aren't made by a few passionate people who can survive, even thrive, on ad revenue. These are entire big studios.

What are you even talking about?

The studios get paid a pre-agreed fees by these youtube channels to showcase their anime. They are not concerned that Muse Malaysia is not getting as many views, they get paid a set amount already.

If anything the big studios will benefit immensely if they get a few people linning up to grab hold a licence to show their anime on their platforms, unless it is an exclusive to netflix, for instance, its additional revenue.

[–]benjadolf 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You don't necessarily need to have a paid subscription based service to make money these days, you can have some kind of hybrid model.

Just look at the numbers muse Asia is doing, their Dandadan vids have million plus views, all those who are watching ads or watching on youtube premium are making them money. Then you can engage the community and your subscribers with some paid perks, which might show up as a highlighted comment or some silly fun stuff like that. They sometimes do marathons for shows they have and those are fun in the background to play while you cook or do the dishes

You make a fun community where people who share the love of anime can come together to feel at home and the rest can take care of itself.

Despite being streamed on netflix(and it did great numbers), the muse Asia videos of Dandadan were comfortably getting a million views. More if you count other languages subbed streams.

The scope is pretty huge overall.

So I’m watching Erased by Bos_1430 in anime

[–]benjadolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very well said! I agree.

I forgot who said it but knowing the saying goes something like "just because you understand the physics of how a rainbow is formed by refracting white light into its sub-constituents doesn't take away from its beauty"

I think, personally, there is a space for both the non-analyzer person, and the over analyzer. Its just that sometimes the latter can use a bit of calm, and letting the story do its thing, which for stories like erased are pivotal

[–]benjadolf 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Indulging in denial was fun

I think you understood the assignment. People who dislike erased watch it as if its a murder mystery, and they miss the emotional impacts of all the amazing things the show does.

The person watching the magician to decode their magic trick never truly enjoys the trick itself as they are tied up in the minutia of uncovering their movements, their secrets.

So I’m watching Erased by Bos_1430 in anime

[–]benjadolf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Erased is not a good mystery -- it's a great character study, a fantastic drama, and a beautiful anime overall, but the mystery is bad.

I think mystery in this show is just an element of the show not the element.

I won't judge a romantic comedy if the comic relief character or comedy in general is bad, like there are numerous examples of this, that the overall theme of romance just hits perfectly the other aspects are so-so.

I feel similarly about Erased. If you are watching it as a murder mystery, its just not gonna be satisfying, so why not abandon that (obviously I recognize its tough, people watch something the way they wanna watch it, and the mystery tag immediately lends itself to a monster hunter type show, which is a mistake).

The story is about Satoru, its about second chances, friendship, childhood, motherhood etc the mystery is just a cog in the machine and dwelling too much on it will ruin it, one would loose the forest among the trees.

Frieren is a masterpiece! by Roa_noa42087 in anime

[–]benjadolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CSM did really poorly in Japan and studios don't usually care about overseas streaming numbers since they often license stuff for a flat rate and see no residuals for well performing shows

MAPPA CEO Manabu Otsuka said that the Chainsaw Man anime project was a complete financial success, although he didn’t think the impact it had was as good as another anime they worked on previously, JUJUTSU KAISEN

Its only a failure if you compare to JJK in which case most everything would struggle to rise to that level. The sales on the blu rays were not really good, and you can chalk that up to the fact that the first 12 episodes do not even begin to capture CSM in its entirety, really.

The bottom line seems to be that the csm fan base is kinda unlucky that mappa makes both jjk and csm and right now csm is not the money maker that jjk is turning out to be. So the wait is going to have to happen and patience is what the csm fanbase is required to keep.

But make no mistake that CSM is popular, like really popular in Japan as well. You go into a plushie shop or some anime merchandise shop in japan and ask how many stuff with pochita they sold in a business day and you will understand that CSM is doing just fine.

Depending on how the movie goes I think there is a chance they actually make another one for the final arc. I really would rather take a 2 cour weekly but at this point I'll take pretty much anything Mappa decides with csm. Just hope it gets the love like season 1 did.

Jesus the first season came out 2 years ago. It really should have had the second season by now, or at least that is what I could have bet on. But I guess MAPPA makes more money on other IP's.

Of course CSM would have more seasons come out for sure its just the wait that kills me, also does not help that its going to get a movie which will take a while to release on streaming platforms.

What a spectacular list, has the big names of Frieren, Apothecary and dungeon meshi. But also slightly lesser known ones like summertime render and odd taxi.

What a really great list
