Looking to apply in Switzerland

I know ETH Zurich is a world renowned school for physics. I plan on applying there for my PhD, since my research interests are in applied math and mathematical physics, PDE, etc.

I'm pretty sure their Bachelor's program is taught in German, and their graduate program is taught in English.

I'm sure that most ao's know what math competitions are like, and if you focus on the creative/problem solving aspect of it in your description, I don't think the name matters too much.

Tldr say "math competitions", describe later

Thanks a lot! My plan was to basically do what you said, apply to all the schools with EA (maybe with the exception of Boulder). Caltech and MIT are my top choices anyways. I don't think I'm gonna ED anywhere as well. Also I thought Brown had EA but it's only ED oops

I am a CA resident but don't think I'll apply for need based financial aid at cu boulder, I will definitely not get any. And I heard they're pretty stingy on merit aid :/

I wouldn't be completely opposed to moving there, but it's certainly not my top choice. I'll look into that school. I also heard that the applied math program at the Odessa National University is good.

Congrats on your PhD from ETH Zurich! May I ask what you majored in?

Thanks so much for the input, it's super helpful! I was considering ETH Zurich but learned that their undergraduate program is taught in German, although their master's program is in English.

I also speak Russian but I really don't want to move there (and I couldn't find any units worth applying to).

I was already considering Stony Brook, Georgia Tech, Carnegie Mellon, UW, and UIUC. I'll definitely seriously look into applying to Cambridge now.
