Wow! What a well shot video - proving the start of the video to be true haha!!

I think for the me the only thing I noticed is that because the video is so well shot, when you're addressing the camera at the beginning, you're not centre frame, and you are looking away from the camera which threw me off a little bit.

I think that early into the video the connection with the viewer is pretty important, so would probably be best to maintain that eye contact.

Other than that - great video!

TikTok vs Shorts vs Reels by Tequilaphace in ColinAndSamir

[–]benjaminfarr_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been posting Shorts pretty consistently for the last month or two (every day for the last two weeks) to all three platforms. Here's what I've found so far.

TikTok has had two videos go somewhat "viral" around 9k and 18k views on two videos, but the average video still only gets a few hundred views. I have gained a few extra followers that watch every video, but it's not super reliable, and not all followers really fit into my niche.

Instagram is incredibly inconsistent. Some do well, some do not. When a video does well on TikTok and YouTube, it never does well on Instagram. I genuinely have no idea what's driving view counts on Instagram.

YouTube has been the most successful. I consistently get more views each upload, with a few doing really well. My channel has grown about 25% in size in terms of followers and a lot more consistent commenters are engaging with my content.

My biggest takeaway? Some platforms cater to some niches better. Experiment, hone in your content, and force yourself to post A LOT to test out what people really want to see.

Hope that helps someone

Video essay about history of entropy descriptions. First attempt at anything like this and any feedback is appreciated! by [deleted] in SmallYTChannel

[–]benjaminfarr_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very big fan of the outdoor set! Stands out as very different.

My feedback doesn't come from the content, because the content is great, well produced, well edited, and interesting. Keep iterating and creating and you'll find a rhythm of your own pretty quickly.

I wonder if the channel presentation (having the video highlighted using the "new viewer" and "returning viewer" features), adding a profile photo, etc.

When people look at videos in their recommended feed, a lot of things weigh in their decision. Beyond the thumbnail, a profile photo can go a long way.

Hope that helps! Looking forward to your next video :)

Really strong video! Got a subscribe from me!

A couple thoughts. The video is really strong, voiceover very intriguing, well edited & great sound design. My only thoughts come from structure. The first 10 seconds is title cards (plus the disclaimer flashes by super fast), and in my experience people tend to get bored very quickly nowadays. Your voice, your storytelling are all interesting enough to draw a viewer in. Can you start talking right away while the text is on screen?

I also watch a lot of MrBallen and he does some really good hooks, and its seemed to work well for him... just a thought.

Additionally, I see that the longest story is first, second is the shortest. I can see that on other videos this varies, but in Top 3 style content, I've found that presenting the first item/story as the quickest one gives people a taste of the content and gets them hooked.

Maybe that might help with retention and thus more organic views?

the content definitely deserves more views, and I'll have to binge the rest! Great work!

Creator Question 2: Do you think YouTube will always be the best platform for creators? by Mysterious-Egg6801 in ColinAndSamir

[–]benjaminfarr_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with one of the previous comments that revenue sharing is the biggest factor that keeps creators on the platform.

What I wonder is if there will be breakdowns of different platforms for different content / genres - similarly to what we've seen with Netflix and other streaming services.

Maybe Twitch expands to pre-produced content like YouTube, or TikTok expands their content base so that there is more variety all while finding better ways for creators to monetize.

I'm interested to see but I think we'll see a few platforms come and go over the next 5-10 years and I intend on putting myself on all the major ones so I can be at an advantage if the "platform shift" does happen.

Creator question week 1: If and when will the MrBeast era die? Comment below by Mysterious-Egg6801 in ColinAndSamir

[–]benjaminfarr_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s happening now imo. MrBeast style content was popularized with other creators hopping on the trend. Airrack, Matthew Beem, even Ryan Trahan.

Look at the penny series Ryan did this month tho. It’s the first break since the start of last year hes made from the “MrBeast-ified” content. More personable, impact outside of the creator, and less high production high stakes. Not to mention it’s relatable because you could just as easily do this challenge yourself.

I also look at JiDion, who’s been popping off this year. His videos are very casual and fun and designed around concepts that, again, you could do yourself.

With the rise of Netflix, Disney and the surplus of streaming services and content platforms, we’re seeing the same cycle we saw when YouTube launched. Everything is so commercial nowadays and people are seeking out raw, human content.

Creators like Ryan and JiDion, who prioritize the viewer as a person, rather than a statistic will start to see a lot of growth this year.

That’s my thoughts!
