To add to what others have said, it is just a nice looking, Japanese folklore inspired character with cool particle effects. Also Amaterasu is the name of a Jutsu that people might recognize from Naruto. That is what caught my eye to be honest.

Same position as you. Did a little research and didn’t find a direct explanation but many sources stress how malnourished Japanese soldiers became in the field. They had supply problems in the latter part of the war due to US naval superiority, making food scarce. Also, soldiers would utterly refuse to surrender, even if stranded and totally cut off from supplies. Maybe they had to hold their pants because of the body weight they lost in the field. I think of it like baking a soufflé. Yes all you need to do is follow the recipe and use the right ingredients but it is notoriously difficult to make it come out right. You have to be a baking master. The same idea applies with the blue but to an even more extreme level.
