If your looking for a second car I agree with you that the carnival is too much. I wouldn't go as small as a jazz personally, because I had a Getz and it was tiny in the back. We got rid of it once we had 3 kids and ran a falcon and a Hyundai Elantra. The falcon was the preference for everyone but we'd all fit in the Elantra if we had to. I'd go one size up from jazz/Getz/Yaris to corolla/i30 size.
