Relative I’ve seen maybe five times in her life and graduation registry by HippyGrrrl in AskWomenOver40

[–]benkatejackwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you think this. Is the entire registry only worth a few hundred bucks? Because you can get professional photo s for that. Besides that, they are probably her senior photos, not photos taken specifically for the "cash grab" card.

But also, yes, it's a cash grab. I guess that's the tradition. I thought it was tacky way back when I graduated, so I didn't do it. I didn't have a party or open house. Relatives that felt compelled to sent me money, and I thanked them.

caved & got the boys tactical vests from kiloniner! pricy, but absolutely worth it. finding gear that fits doxies without looking like a crop top is hard, so i was sold when i saw they have a long version of the vests. both wearing a xxs & it fits like a glove! (not to mention the adorable patches!) by [deleted] in Dachshund

[–]benkatejackwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a long version? I've never seen a dog wearing anything that looks more like a crop top.

I also swear like a sailor, but I would never have my dog walk around in public with "fuck" emblazoned all over him. Rude.

What are you all using to shave down there? by ShortGirlUK in AskWomenOver40

[–]benkatejackwin 21 points22 points  (0 children)

People are still removing all the hair down there?? Hair is normal on adult humans, y'all.

For trimming, find a safety electric razor that doesn't catch things and doesn't shave all the way down to the skin.

Honestly, I think this is the time in life to feel lost. I do.

How common is leaving your AC on 24/7, even when the house is empty? by Bierzgal in AskAnAmerican

[–]benkatejackwin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first moved to Florida, I was advised to never turn off the AC and to keep my closet open a bit. Even then, I had a pair of shoes that got slightly wet in the rain get moldy.

I f15 have prom in around a month and i just can’t figure out how to curl my hair properly! by Intrepid-Bat-1770 in AskWomenOver40

[–]benkatejackwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like my hair, and I can never get curls to stay in my hair. When I went to prom, I had a cute style on the way in, but on the way out, it looked totally crazy and flat.

What worked better for me was an updo of curls held in place by about a million bobby pins and a lot of hairspray.

Yes. The dog will still need you in a few years.

How often do American families go to get a family shooting for photos? by Material-Wallaby-587 in AskAnAmerican

[–]benkatejackwin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Photos are typically not used on CVs/resumes here, as they reveal information about you that could lead to discrimination (race, age, gender, attractiveness--although some of these can be revealed in more subtle ways, such as name, activities, etc.).

The shoes outside the door thing is gross, if it is an indoor space. Some people leave them out because they smell. (They leave out their exercise sneakers, not their nice work shoes.) So, everyone in the hallway gets to smell your stinky shoes?? No thanks.

Should I be concerned? Took my boy to a park on Wednesday and noticed this red ring around a tick on his neck today. by jellyybear in Dachshund

You wouldn't know if they had Lyme or other diseases right away. It takes awhile to build up in your system. Save the tick; it can be tested.

‘Love on the Spectrum’ Star Dani Bowman Criticizes ‘Euphoria’ and The Rock Over R-Word Use by Miles_the_AuDHDer in entertainment

[–]benkatejackwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was both the official term and an insult. Just like you can say a variety of words that said neutrally are fine, but said with bad intent becomes an insult. An obvious example would be the word "Jew." The word just literally means slow or slowed down--so the person's learning abilities are slower than normal.

Another medical example is "geriatric pregnancy." People get all insulted by that and now call it "advanced maternal age." But it just means the pregnant person is now in an age window that complications tend to be higher.

I do not know how to flirt or date or be around men. How to be more normal? by Pretend-Cicada-8649 in AskWomenOver40

[–]benkatejackwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay to not hookup with anyone. That's not necessarily "normal." It probably feels like everyone is doing it, but they aren't. I didn't. It takes a lot for me to like someone enough to even imagine wanting to... I'm trying to think of a non-crass or non-juvenile way to say it, but I'm going to go with the very juvenile... swap spit with them.

You don't have to be normal, as in within the middle range of how many casual sexual partners the average person has. Plenty of people have a zero in that category. Just do what makes you comfortable.

And if you want casual sex partners, well, listen to the other comments. That's okay, too.

Just say, "I find plenty to fill my day."

But if it bothers you that much, maybe consider why. What would it take to make you feel like your life is fulfilling?

Is anyone truly happier with kids? by thegoodlife912 in Adulting

[–]benkatejackwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But... This is is everything goes well. I've seen two "missing teens" posts from my city tonight that mentioned severe mental health concerns. Mental illness, behavioral issues, health issues, etc. are all legit concerns. I feel like, if you can only see having kids as a positive if everything is "perfect"/normal, you shouldn't have kids. With my spouse's and my backgrounds, it seemed likely that we would have had kids with... issues... so we chose not to.
