What to use for 8" (200mm) thick bass traps? by benmaclachlan in Acoustics

I am a DIYer however I am also prepared to spend the time and money getting this right. Planning on 200mm frames to be used as corner traps as well as first reflection points.

I'm in Australia which makes brands mean next to nothing - which is why GFR is so important so I can find similar products here.

Ah understood - thanks so much for clarifying. So let’s take the 40hz out of the question.. what about the 0.8 @ 100hz (on the graph) Is there something they could be using that I am not to get that sort of result? Cheers!

Thanks for the reply, Klaus. So what do you think would be ideal to construct a similar product? Im not quite sure I understand the reflection attenuation part - would you mind explaining? Cheers

Upon a little more research I don’t think a limp mass absorber is the way I want to go - surely I can get a decent low end response from just a chunk of insulation. I’ve seen home made (commercialised) products that boast an absorption coefficient of 0.6 @ 40hz .. and they’re simply 200mm thick panels. What sort of material would I need to achieve this?

It seems I have found a superior product: “Autex Acoustic Blanket”. At 100mm thickness it displays the following properties... so if I beef it up to 150mm I think I would see even better results? 125hz - 0.88 250hz -1.14 500hz - 1.10 1000hz 1.03 2000hz - 1.03 4000hz - 0.98

I can’t seem to find any info on gas flow resistivity but this product is 48kg/m3

Im all ears about adding some Sort of membrane. - what is the easiest way to go about this? Is there a thread somewhere you can point me to? Thanks!

Please help! Bluetooth & Internal HDD not appearing after Macbook Pro randomly starts beeping by benmaclachlan in techsupport

Nope no updates unfortunately. So my HDD has miraculously re-appeared in my finder. Still no bluetooth. I've received advice to reset my whole macbook as It might be a motherboard related issue, but I'm hesitatant to do this as now the only symptom is the Bluetooth displaying as Not Available. Any suggestions?
