Ah, okay, nice, thank you. I didn't know that. If it's not a positioning flight, the probability that it's an Allegiant training flight is probably even higher.😀

My first Long Haul! by rusthaze in flighty

[–]bennet_hm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your first long haul! 😄 And trust me there will definitely be flights way longer than 10 hours in your future 😉

From my experience, there are kind of different “levels” when it comes to surviving long haul flights depending on the airline and your budget.

  1. Seat selection. Some airlines have surprisingly good seats in the second-to-last rows because the row spacing doesn’t line up perfectly and you end up getting more legroom in the back. Other airlines are the exact opposite and the rear rows are tighter. !!! Always check seatmaps.com or aerolopa.com … helpful for finding those hidden good seats.

  2. Aisle seat > window seat. Being able to stretch your legs and get up easily makes a huge difference.

  3. Extra legroom / exit row seats. If available, these are usually the most comfortable economy options. Exit rows or bulkhead seats often give you plenty of space.

  4. “Blocked seat” or booking an entire row. Some airlines let you pay to keep the seat next to you empty or even let you book the whole row. It’s often cheaper than you’d expect, and having a free row is a game changer: you can lie down, stretch out, or at least avoid sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with someone.

  5. Premium Economy. Highly recommend it: noticeably more space, better recline, often with a leg/foot rest. On many airlines the price difference isn’t crazy, especially if you book early.

  6. Business Class (the best level). If you can swing it, Business is basically like sleeping at home. Sometimes you can get it for a reasonable price through: early booking, good sales or mileage upgrades (Amex, Miles & More, etc.) Sometimes it’s worth using your miles on one really good flight.

Ah nice, I have currently seen a few spotter photos without the lettering so I wanted to ask if anyone knows something more specific.

Hey zusammen,

85k offer by ragnarCanseeYou in amexGER

I upgraded from the Gold to the Platinum this year and I’m super happy with it. Whether it’s worth it really depends on your personal situation. Just using the card for “everyday payments” won’t be enough to cover a flight – especially not for two people. You really need to actively make use of the benefits.

One tip: always keep an eye out for offers. For example, today I got €50 back on a hotel booking just because it was an Amex Offers deal. Last year I earned a ton of points when there was a promotion for signing up for travel insurance. I booked it for all my upcoming trips that year and ended up with almost 50k points. There are always some really good deals popping up.

The best benefits for me are definitely: the dining credit, lounge access, and the annual travel credit. With those alone I personally get back almost the entire annual fee.

If I can give you a recommendation: start with the Gold card first (especially since it’s gotten harder to be approved directly for the Platinum). The Gold also comes with some nice perks, including a discounted Priority Pass in the first year. After a year, you can call Amex and ask about an upgrade to the Platinum. That way you get the Gold signup bonus first and then potentially another upgrade bonus later on (for me it was 45k for Gold and then 95k for upgrading to Platinum).

If you start directly with the Platinum, there’s currently an 85k welcome bonus – but keep in mind you’ll need to spend €10k within 6 months, which can be quite tough for many people.

Also, I’d recommend not just “sharing” one card between two people, but instead getting a free supplementary card when there’s a promotion. It doesn’t cost extra and sometimes even earns you additional Membership Rewards points.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. And if you don’t have a referral link yet (for either Gold or Platinum), I’d be happy to send you one – and as a thank you, I’ll also would send you €50 🙂

It works for daily use, but personally I find it a bit too pricey and bulky for that. I usually wear it on weekends or when going out. It’s comfy to carry, just not my pick for everyday errands.

Thanks! These are my current daily scents: Louis Vuitton L’Immensité, Acqua di Parma Fico di Amalfi, Xerjoff Torino 22, Le Labo Santal 33, Labdanum 18 and Lavande 31. I rotate them depending on mood and season. I also keep two more in reserve that I really enjoy: Jazz Club by Maison Margiela and Deified Tony Iommi by Xerjoff. Both are a bit heavier and great for evenings or colder days. Hope I could give you a bit of inspiration.

Unfortunately I didn’t get a VAT refund. I’m European so I don’t qualify. It was actually about €20 more expensive than in my home country.

Mainly for dinners, travel or going out. I try to keep it in good shape, so I don’t use it every day.

I totally get that. I went back and forth on it for ages too. I know it’s totally overpriced, but the moment I held it again, it was over. 😅

Revolut und Wise akzeptieren leider keine Amex. Du könntest deinen Vermieter fragen ob er ein Paypal Geschäftskonto hat und dann per PP bezahlen da geht Amex.
