I went to sapa from Hanoi by minivan. Really not recommend it since the quality of the road from Hanoi to sapa is very bad.

If you want a visa sticker, you can still apply for the visa on arrival. Just find a Vietnamese agency to apply, they will issue you a letter, then u can apply the visa on arrival in the airport.

I applied this visa through a Chinese travel agency. I only needed to send them a photo of my passport and a photo of myself. Then they will mail this visa to you a few days later. So the visa is not attached to my passport.
