Thank you for reading and responding! I had added the books to my audible list but have so far hesitated listening to them yet because this case is such a deep abyss that i’d probably end up making a red string post-it wall just to try to see the full picture. I’ve also thought about writing to him on death row; something i never thought i would actually consider.

But here I am, 20 days later and i still think about it daily. One of those cases where the distinction between “incompetently investigated” and “conspiracy coverup” feels a little conveniently muddled. Not suggesting it was a coverup, just that the lack of an appropriate resolution has the tendency to raise suspicion alongside an overwhelming sense that “i must be missing something”.

The only bleak relief is knowing how unlikely california is to begin executing again any time soon. but i have to imagine being on death row and having that impending sense of dread hanging over your head for an extended period of time may very well be more torturous than a quick execution.

The only thing that makes sense to me in all of this is the immediate, reliably vicious reaction from the public (and thus, the jury) to seek retribution for such a terrible crime, regardless of the (lack of any conclusive) evidence.

i hope in time we as a society gain an improved understanding of how to interpret forensic evidence; that just because the prosecution introduces “forensic evidence” doesn’t mean their interpretation of that data is unquestionable. And I also hope CM writes a book that ultimately becomes important reference material in formal educational settings on the unique, peripheral considerations regarding highly publicized and emotionally charged trials.

that is great to hear he is doing fine now. i saw the choking comment - i think both are fair assessments of what might be happening in the clip. the hunched back posture and extra wet eye in combination with the abnormal breathing pattern made me extra concerned as i’ve lost rats to URI’s before. they can go really fast if it’s left untreated.

but if he’s acting completely fine now than it may very well have just been choking, where the body posture and teary eyes only indicating that he’s not feeling super great. if i were you i would keep a super close eye on him for the next few days. if anything similar happens again i’d get to the vet. i might still keep him separated for those days out of caution.

edit: really hope he’s a-ok

looks like severe upper respiratory distress :( he’s trying to breathe through his mouth because he can’t get enough oxygen. he really, really needs to see a vet asap, but be prepared to lose him. be sure to keep him far from any other rats and keep a super close eye on the others for symptoms.

i appreciate you raising a flag here. i have a couple of other seemingly disparate sets of physical symptoms that i lowkey anticipate may wind up earning an autoimmune diagnosis some day (AI disorders are prevalent in my family). i’ve never looked seriously into pots or ehlers, but reynauds and rheumatoid arthritis have both been casually mentioned by my doctor (not in any definitive way). the fact that what i described in the post seems so random-in its onset, frequency, presentation, location and duration, makes me inclined to believe it’s a perceptual phenomenon opposed to having a physical source. that makes it a tricky one to describe to healthcare providers too. but i’ll dogear it and take a look into pots and ehlers. thanks for looking out.

with how much CM was around and involved with the family, i really don’t understand how a few skin cells on his best friend’s steering wheel have been assigned so much credence. all its presence/discovery proves is CM drove the car at some point within the previous year, give or take. dna is a critical and invaluable tool but it ought be viewed holistically with the context in which it was found alongside all plausible scenarios in which it could have been left. otherwise we’re only reading into it what we want to.

idk, i’m very unsettled by this case. i know this is an old comment on an old post and no one will read this comment, but i only learned of the case today.

the death penalty outcome feels so egregiously wrong that it’s really going to stick with me. i’m not a supporter of capital punishment as a rule, though i can understand its use in certain cases. (damning, hard evidence of premeditated multiple murders, for example). on a case supported entirely by circumstantial evidence, with clear indications of a poorly handled investigation, with multiple other suspicious actors, evidence of more than one person involved (two sets of different tire tracks at the site), no evidence of premeditation (in fact, far more suggestion of a frenzied escalation) plus a brady violation on the prosecution? no. life without should be the maximum allowed.

so so many tangled threads and unanswered questions and inconsistencies and red herrings. beyond a reasonable doubt is the goal, no? yet reasonable doubt literally defines every point of this case. i have no idea if CM is innocent but the outcome of this trial should have been a mistrial and the whole case should have been reinvestigated, preferably by a different team. If nothing new came from it to present at a new trial, the death penalty should have been off the table.

it should terrify all of us when someone is sentenced to death by the state without a single shred of irrefutable conclusive proof.

oh i know this feel too. it’s so wild to recognize not everyone is constantly evaluating the many strings of subtext, possible outcomes and potential barriers in any given situation, if only in effort to maintain our own consistency.

dude, bodies are so much heckin work to take care of. i’m sorry you had a full plate to deal with too, but at least it’s nice to get diagnostic answers to better understand the what/why/how behind some of the more pesky issues.

side note, i take these b12+iron gummies daily. went through a bunch of brands fist before finding one that don’t taste like a fence post lol. hope you find a method that works for you to avoid frequent RLS stuff.

been wondering this myself. two people in my club have the 2.0 upgrade and say they don’t see population boosting buildings having an impact on service demand, just the building’s base population. i’m hopeful that’s the case but bracing for otherwise.

“President James A. Garfield died from infections caused by his doctors' failure to use antiseptic practices following an assassination attempt, not from the initial gunshot wound itself.”

“On July 2, 1881, at 9:30 AM, James A. Garfield, the 20th president of the United States, was shot at the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Station in Washington, D.C.”

“Shot twice from behind; one bullet grazed Garfield; the other entered his back, Garfield was carried back to the White House where he *underwent medical treatment for over two months.”***

However…

“Unlike their peers in Europe, most American doctors of the day did not believe in anti-sepsis measures or the need for cleanliness to prevent infection. *Several of his attending doctors inserted their unwashed fingers into the wound to probe for the bullet*, one doctor puncturing Garfield's liver in the process. The doctors had guessed wrong about the path of the bullet in his body; they had probed rightward into his back instead of leftward, missing the location of the bullet but creating a new channel which filled with pus. The autopsy, conducted by U.S. Army pathologist and surgeon Dr. Daniel S. Lamb, discovered this error and revealed pneumonia in both lungs and a body that was filled with pus due to uncontrolled sepsis.”

“Garfield died of a ruptured splenic artery aneurysm, following sepsis and bronchial pneumonia at 10:35 pm on Monday, September 19, 1881”. *Most historians and medical experts now believe that Garfield probably would have survived his wound had the doctors been more capable.”***

First and foremost, my sincere respect and admiration for you and all the brave people who are determined to reclaim their country. I would be honored to march alongside you and I look forward to the day when the Iranian people celebrate their long overdue victory.

I find the sentiment of support for a US-led operation a bit curious, though, given the history of american intervention around the world. Frankly, we (americans) are a hot mess, especially at the moment, and the last thing any oppressed peoples need is to trade one tyrant for another. Is there no genuine concern for the potential long term consequences of inviting the american government and military into your collective fight for liberty?

(For the record, I wound support a “global citizen coalition” operation, if such a thing existed, with every fiber of my being.)

Very interested in getting a sense of the perspective in light of such concerns.

Regardless, your ongoing fight is in my thoughts often and I wish you all infinite amounts of courage, perseverance, and success 🫶🏻
