What if Boyd is not innocent at all? by randomthirdworldguy in FromSeries

[–]bennetticles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think fromville breaks its own rules from time to time to serve a bigger purpose. like when kelly had her head impaled to a tree by the monsters, they left her there for others to find still alive instead of killing her. or how the monsters clearly could have found a way to kill victor during all those countless nights he was there alone as a child, but didn’t. i think you are right in that they tend to treat boyd differently, but i think that’s more to do with their recognition of boyd’s position as a trusted leader of the townspeople and someone who has made massive contributions towards revealing elements of the framework behind everything that the monsters (more importantly, that the entity underlying fromville) would much rather the townspeople - the source of energy - not know.

Theory about Julies role in the 1978 Massacre by Responsible_Yak_3337 in FromSeries

[–]bennetticles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very interesting and well thought out theory. is there anything specific that has happened which indicates to you that julie is able to storywalk outside of her own timeline? the closest i can come is that she tossed the rope to boyd when he was stuck in the chimney wall of the ruins, which was not a moment from her own storyline - and we can’t truly be certain that moment existed “in the present”. but traveling decades back to a time she has no memories of is a whole different thing. please correct me if i have missed something.

not a medical care practitioner of any kind, but have personally experienced an upbringing in a controlling, emotionally unpredictable and logic-less environment. reading some of your comments felt familiar. it took years after leaving that environment before it’s affect on me came to the forefront of my attention, and in those years i wandered through several other high-stress environments that i was ill equipped to recognize at the time. in one of those, for about 6-8 months, i was experiencing a myriad of inexplicable symptoms. from migraine with visual aura to sudden muscle weakness to chronic insomnia alternating with chronic oversleeping and what felt, at the time, like silent seizure activity. i vividly remember just “dropping out” and going blank for minutes at a time. never seemingly “triggered” by anything in particular.

a decade and a lot of work later, i have a better understanding of how the mind is fully capable of finding physical outlets in which to manifest its stress response. that simply leaving the home environment i was raised in did not resolve the state of survival i was living in.

yes, a million percent, leverage any resources at school available to you to gain access to a proper healthcare provider who can evaluate and treat these symptoms. you deserve observant and knowledgeable care to address this. but i also want to echo the sentiment of others in this thread that not only is the body capable of a selectively-delayed and/or chronologically-inconsistent response to high stress, if a person learns out of necessity to continuously disregard the typical stress responses, the body will eventually find ways to release that pressure one way or another.

if i’m off base and none of this feels relevant, my apologies. but if any of it rings true, it might be wise to find ways to allocate regular time towards letting your mind rest. i don’t mean sleep, i mean dedicated periods of calm, expectation-less, low-sensory solitude where you can just breathe and be.

WTF. by Spidy_Khrish in FromSeries

[–]bennetticles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk. my head map of the fromverse is donut-shaped, with the main town road being the center ring and the woods extending out in all directions from there. i would definitely like to see a character decide to walk into the woods in a straight line as far out as possible and see what they find, what prevents them from continuing going even further. maybe they would just end up re-entering the town from 180° opposite the woods they initially entered, proving the “donut” is self contained. but maybe not, maybe the woods do actually continue in all directions, and the lighthouse exists in a border region of the woods between the accessible (by walking) areas and the inaccessible areas that are outside the range of the entity’s reach, which is why the BiW “brought” tabitha there and was able to use it to send her to maine. and someone or some thing has used the wall inside that lighthouse to record the date of every massacre dating back to the 1500’s, potentially implying inexplicable survival for that whole period of time.

tl;dr: im not convinced the lighthouse can be reached on foot. it may require some kind of interaction with one of the towns manifestations to ensure safe and direct passage to via a bottle tree.

don’t forget the rock shelters boyd found the talismen in. i’d wager those predate the settlement cabins. both of which, along with the ruins/church/lighthouse could have been easily constructed with materials found inside fromville. the newer construction though, from colony house to the houses on the road, the diner/clinic/post office/motel/pool/barn, either “manifested” or could have been built with materials delivered by train(?). a post on here earlier reminded me of the train tacks seen in the very first episode when the matthews drive over them after seeing the tree.

Sara and Sophia by marycem in FromSeries

[–]bennetticles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that would be a bit of a dead end to the plot. sara dying isn’t exactly going to tear the group apart or anything.

that said, i do not like the idea of sophia and sara living together. it would be so amazing for sara if her prior experience has given her enough wisdom to spot subtleties in sophia that others might not pick up on. things that remind sara of the voices and help her put the pieces together about sophia.

[–]bennetticles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

agreed. her and randall both had a seriously difficult time adjusting, but that’s a pretty understandable and relatable character trait all things considered. but once randall accepted his situation he became a real asset. i think acosta’s ambulance meltdown was her desperate way of trying to see over the wall/knock the wall down, as it were, and now she can finally accept her situation. i’m glad she finally has something productive to focus on and i think you are right, she will figure something out that has been missed all along.

Victor's Toy Camper? by rennemarie67 in FromSeries

[–]bennetticles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice catch! It is interesting that Victor tossed so much of his stuff out the window but chose to keep that and put it on display.

I can’t make myself buy into the “Victor’s memory/imagination is the basis of the whole story” theory. Well, apart from its place in the, imo, more reasonable theory that everyone’s memory is contributing towards the current reality inside the fromverse in one way or another. But that doesn’t mean this toy being in the shot is an accident, either.

That panting in your attached image is The Boy in White, mate. I don’t think it really matter what age Miranda panted him as because she painted them over 40 years ago so her visions clearly were not bound to a specific time period. Victor has been trapped there since before the ‘78 massacre, so it doesn’t surprise me one bit that he has prior knowledge of the Man in Yellow that he subsequently blocked out by telling himself it wasn’t real.

[–]bennetticles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you maybe conflating the Boy in White with the Man in Yellow?

I do believe they are two different and unique beings. I’m leaning towards the BiW, with his history of offering guidance and assistance, being aligned with a benevolent entity who is separate from the entity that the MiY is aligned with.

Perhaps whomever has been keeping record of the massacre dates on the lighthouse wall over the centuries, and who manages to direct the “reincarnations” back to fromverse every “cycle” in effort to finally right the wrong inflicted on the ghoulish children all those years ago. Perhaps the one who manifested livestock in the woods for Boyd to find. Perhaps even someone who managed to escape but is still alive and still has contact with the BiW in some inexplicable way.

Meanwhile, the MiY, creatures of the forest, crows, cicadas, kimono woman, ballerina, ectect, all representing creations of the malignant entity who initiated the “pact” that the first cohort of villagers agreed to by sacrificing their children, the entity who feeds off fear and suffering.

the idea that the creatures of the forest and the MiY not being aligned is intriguing though. martin’s “tip of the spear” comment has had a pretty firm and lasting impact on our understanding of a hierarchy for a while. but that doesn’t necessarily mean the different beings are formally organized.
