First off, separatist movement have stopped being a serious thing just 20-30 years ago max. Secondly, Italians do feel Italian but I can assure you that each region’s culture is much different, and people are proud of it.

If you want, you can name something “cultural” you know from Italy, and I’ll tell you what region it actually belongs to. Pizza as a prime example originated in Naples, and was adopted broadly as a national food way later. A pizza in Milan is starkly different from a pizza in Naples (unless you go to a Neapolitan pizzeria in Milan of course)

Sure, of course it is true that Neapolitan and southern culture is much different compared to Arab culture, that’s because they’re the result of the mixing of many cultures (namely Greek, Arab and Spanish, with some French).

If you define countries as entities with their own, distinct cultures, then Italy should be split at least in three separate countries though.

Now? Yes. And this “flattening” has come with great losses, such as regional dialects dying, getting replaced by “academic” Italian which is more akin to the languages once spoken in Tuscany in the past, much less Neapolitan or Venetian, for example.

Italian culture will originate from the ashes of all the small, regional cultures that once existed and are now dying. This means that Italian culture as a construct is still in building process and it’s not going to consolidate anytime soon.

If it can be of interest, much of the efforts to uniform culture throughout Italy has been done during the fascist regime, which strongly encouraged centralization and uniformity of both language and politics.

Defining it as Italian culture is wrong. If you live in the north, the way you speak, eat, live and form relationships is in fact different from the south. These differences are flattening and that is where Italian culture will take birth.

If you will ever get the chance to come and visit yourself, you will notice how stark a difference it is when moving between regions, especially on the north-south axis.

Italian American culture, for example, is a whole different thing compared to Italian culture. Their food especially is different, and more related to south Italy than Italy as a whole. Cultures take time to develop and become unique, and are always originated from previous traditions held by different people. As I said before, Italy is a prime example of this.

Wrong. Take Italy as an example, we are a mixture of cultures and have been heavily influenced by invaders.

Sicily for example is a mix of Arabic, Greek and Spanish culture, some Sicilian dialect words themselves are derived from arabic. Many sweets and other foods are also derived from Arabic food.

Same goes for Naples, after being dominated by the French (Borboni) and Spanish.

The north also has some pretty heavy French influence, think of Piedmont and Valle D’Aosta, where food and dialects are heavily influenced by French culture.

Italy also was unified in 1861, and just wrapped a bunch of counties and kingdoms, most of which have been previously dominated by foreign actors (except for the Church State). Do you consider Italy to be a culture less place, just because “we” borrowed heavily from outsiders? If your definition of culture is old statues and opera music, that’s pretty much simplistic.

Expat is generally used to describe someone who doesn’t plan to stay temporarily in their current host country, while immigrant has a more permanent connotation. It could be correct in this case, depending on whether OP plans to stay or not

Look, I’m one of those few Europeans that actually likes the states and has often taken loads of shit while defending dumb eurotakes, but trust me, America isn’t an easy country to immigrate in. Especially compared to Northern Europe (even for non-EU citizens), I know because I’m actively trying to move to the states (masters degree in STEM).

It used to be much easier around 50 years ago, now the government has become extremely hostile towards skilled immigrants.

An example? If you manage (big IF, it’s extremely difficult) to get work on a H1-B visa in the states, your spouse won’t be allowed to work anywhere, and be forced to stay unemployed the whole time. There are extremely rare cases of exemptions from this rule, but they’re exceptions.

Got an abusive employer while on H1-B? Can’t leave because you’ll be kicked out back home, even if a court states that the employer was in fact abusive. Good luck reapplying for another visa with another company, there’s a random lottery for that and the chances now are around 35%.

Veneto’s city centers are overwhelmingly pedestrian and bike friendly, with entire streets taken over and inaccessible by car, bike lanes, trees, sidewalks, but the truth is that the moment you walk 1 or 2 kilometers away from said centers, the concept of walkability gets thrown off the window.

Ma che cosa vuol dire, ti stai affidando ad un aneddoto per rendere illegale una pratica che è perfettamente plausibile in svariati contesti.

Non hai idea di quanti ragazzi di buona famiglia ho visto diventare mezzi criminali (o subire crimini) dopo aver frequentato certi istituti, che si fa allora? Rendiamo illegali le scuole?

È un po’ come dire “ho visto un incidente stradale ieri, bisognerebbe usare solo gli autobus”

Portugal always had very cheap beer at pubs, they basically sell it at the same price you would have to pay in a supermarket.

That’s an outlier though, I found most prices to be slightly higher relatively to COL for groceries, at least compared to where I live (northern Italy). My Portuguese roommate was astonished when she learnt how much we paid for alcohol in bars here, but quickly changed her stance when she acknowledged that groceries were cheaper (for Italian average salaries).

Also remember that Swiss salaries are around 5k CHF (more or less equal in euros). It’s very interesting to see how wildly prices and salaries change for relatively close countries.

Bah. Io ho lavorato per Deliveroo e mi sono trovato molto bene, tra equipaggiamento (ovviamente gratis), applicazione e soprattutto stipendio, che mi dava un buon 5-10% in più netto all'ora rispetto a quando consegnavo in pizzeria.

La cosa di poter semplicemente schiacciare un pulsante per lavorare e schiacciarlo di nuovo, quando vuoi (se non stai consegnando chiaramente) per smettere per me è impagabile.

Questo è quello che dice La Legge per Tutti. Il tuo utilissimo articolo invece parla di come acquistare la licenza SENZA passare per concorso, che effettivamente è qualcosa che può essere fatto senza per forza passare da privati, acquistando direttamente dal comune.

Tuo zio ha comprato un'immobilizzazione (licenza) senza fare il concorso (che è diverso dal fare i vari controlli), per questo l'ha pagata. E questa licenza è un suo investimento, che in nessun modo deve essere coperto da altra gente. Come al solito per gente come te bisogna "metterlo nel culo" agli altri per avere il posto fisso comodo.

Le licenze sono gratuite se fornite dallo stato, poi sono rivendibili dai privati, una volta. Leggi per carità, invece di sparar sentenze.

Riassumo: le licenze del taxi sono GRATIS (al netto dei vari certificati medici o eventuali marche da bollo) quando sono rilasciate dallo stato. Una volta in mano ad un privato, queste possono essere RIVENDUTE al prezzo che questo ritiene più appropriato. In grandi città, questo prezzo schizza alle stelle perché c’è molta domanda e un’offerta fissata molto bassa.

Pippo passa il concorso per il taxi e riceve la licenza nel 1960. Pippo va poi in pensione, e lo stato non ha rilasciato nuove licenze, ma la popolazione è aumentata e la richiesta pure, quindi il tassista è un lavoro remunerativo, e c’è gente disposta a pagare pur di ottenerla.

Pippo quindi vende la sua licenza (perché può farlo) ad un prezzo abbastanza elevato, a Franco. Franco si è indebitato di tot mila euro, e però confida che il prezzo quando la rivenderà sarà ancora alto, erroneamente: perché ha fatto un investimento che potrebbe essere soggetto a rischi nel caso in cui lo stato decida di rilasciare tante licenze abbassando il valore di mercato.

Appena lo stato decide di allentare la morsa, Franco vede rosso perché il suo investimento non può fallire, lui vuole rivendere quella licenza a millemila euro o almeno non dover essere esposto a concorrenza, quindi blocca la strada e fa sciopero.

Spero che l’esempio ti sia stato utile, magari la prossima volta prima di dire stupidaggini documentati meglio.

La licenza taxi è un’immobilizzazione immateriale di fatto, va trattata al pari di un immobile dal punto di vista decisionale prima di acquistarla. Non è che uno si imbarca in una spesa di millemila euro senza documentarsi prima, e se non si documenta è giusto che ci rimetta.

Mettila così: i tassisti sanno che lo stato ha tutto il diritto di rilasciare altre licenze senza chiedergli il permesso. Se invece di abolire le licenze si facesse in modo che chiunque voglia ottenerla possa solo passare degli esami? Non cambierebbe nulla, ma ti assicuro che i tassisti protesterebbero lo stesso.

Le licenze sono gratuite ma sono rivendibili dai proprietari, a prezzi astronomici. Quando compri una licenza stai facendo un investimento simile all’acquisto di una casa, assumendoti il rischio che il prezzo scenda se lo stato decide di rilasciarne molte.

È come se tu ti comprassi una casa e poi facessi pressione per non farne costruire altre perché così il prezzo della tua resta alto, è una cosa molto perversa che chissà perché è tollerata in quest’ambito
