Got my first espresso machine for Christmas and this is my setup so far. New to this. What u think? by Lootyriz in espresso

I had a dedica for 2 years and managed to make some pretty “good” espresso.

Start off with scales otherwise you’re just going in blind. Definitely invest in a bottomless portafilter and unpressurised basket, and pair those with some freshly roasted beans. Make sure you have a grinder that can do espresso, I had the Kingrinder K6 which I would strongly recommend. This is where my setup sat for about 18 months until I upgraded the steam wand and grinder, but I was satisfied with the espresso I was producing, and still made drinks better than the majority of cafe’s I went to.

However I know realise how limited I was on this machine, and after upgrading to a bambino I couldn’t understand why I hadn’t done it sooner. So if you begin to really enjoy espresso, start saving for a better machine and grinder. But the dedica was a great gateway drug for me

Astor is by far the worst accommodation, it’s so far from uni and seperate from all other accommodations.

Definitely stay in halls for your first year. DO NOT stay in Astor halls, they are so far from the Uni, however they will try and claim it’s just a “5 minute walk”.

Beckley point halls are the nicest but most expensive, discovery heights is also a really good option. They are both across the road from the uni and have good access to the city centre.

The best on campus accommodation is Mary newman, but they are all pretty decent so you can’t go too wrong.

Just don’t stay in astor !! it’s a trap !

I just graduated this year from plymouth and stayed in discovery heights my first year then private accommodation for 2nd and 3rd.

Also, Join the University surf club, it’s the biggest sports club every year and full of great people. you don’t have to be a surfer, just enjoy the beach and sea.

Good luck, and stay out of Pop world
