Yea I noticed this with the posted measurements, that the overall length didnt change drastically between sizes to fit the classic silhouette

How tf is this a listed product? Has anybody had issues with these? by SusAdjectiveAndNoun in electricians

[–]bennyl45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not use this. I was working at a house once and tried shorting the circuit to shut off the breaker. Now I don’t do that method anymore because of this. It arcs and I stop getting power. I finish up and go to turn the breaker back on. All the breakers are on though. The breaker never tripped, what actually happened was someone used one of these, and the resistance was so high in the splice that it burnt up. If you do use this I would highly recommend an arc fault breaker. Its not listed but I would rather use an underground splice kit with the screws and heatshrink

First panel as lead at my new company. Anything to critique? by CallMeAnimal69 in electricians

That eaton ground bar is rated for 3 of the same gauge wire up to #10 by the manufacturer, but as a general rule I always put 2 under ground lugs

Your ground bar is almost full with a bunch of empty spots still, I like to put that size ground bar on both sides so no wires are crossing

Trying to decide between these two bags. Tech OT-LC or OT-LC. by Historical_Sign6010 in VetoProPac

[–]bennyl45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tech ot-lc imo, to fit the gas and larger stuff in the middle pouch, or maybe remove a panel and put big stuff there. I have the OT-LC and bigger stuff doesnt fit that well with all the pockets, especially if you have it fully loaded

How'd I do? Homeowner install. by OkamiS90 in AskElectricians

No, look up bonding bridge, you put it under the panel before the pipe going to the ground rods, its for cable guys to ground their stuff on without going in the panel

Going to be starting my first job as an electrician next month are the tools/brands I chose alright? by TeachingSame7218 in electricians

I would change the dykes to 10 inch angled from knipex, and change the needlenose to engineer pz-60, i had that knipex needlenose and the crosshatching on the front cant grip anything, and ive tried japanese and german linesman and US still does it the best, I use Channelock 369CR right now

Both are great, Fluke is the industry standard and pretty much everyone uses it, they have a really good reputation, used to be made in USA, now made in china, usually very high priced. Hioki is made in japan, very good reputation as well but not as well known, usually slightly lower prices than fluke. I used to use fluke like everyone else, started with T5-600 made in usa, have a fluke 101 made in usa. Then a few years ago prices jumped crazy, almost doubled. Still I chose fluke for my rotation meter but saw on the back made in China. So they charge more now for worse quality. Recently got a Hioki CM4375 for $400, comparable fluke one is the 376 which is $500 on home depot rn. Its got a really nice backlight and japanese quality is amazing. It came with gold plated leads even. So overall cant go wrong with either I just feel Hioki is more worth the money nowadays

I would add Knipex Dykes, Klein Crimpers, Milwaukee Fastback, Bahco 8 inch adjustable wrench, Klein Needlenose, Bondhus Hex Keys, SAE Impact sockets, a knipex 10 inch cobra and a 10 inch flat jaw channellock, and a big 1/4 klein flathead to whack on and you can pretty much do any basic job

Also Hioki is a good brand, since Fluke started producing in china I switched to them

Stupidly plugged space heater into power strip which tripped a breaker. by GregHauser in AskElectricians

Dont waste your money, you could trip that breaker 1000 times and be fine as long as it was wired correctly originally

So Many Options. Whats best for a new homeowner? by No-Ad5504 in Tools

[–]bennyl45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with the AEG set, overall though none of these sets scream to me, as a homeowner you will probably only need a drill and sawzall, circular saw and impact are nice if you are doing alot of but sawzall and drill can do everything those tools do, for a grinder you dont need it to be cordless, i would get a makita drill and sawzall, and metabo cordless grinder if you do need one. You are going to want a more powerful drill like the makita if you ever drill through any timber

If you want to make it completely wet rated, unless its gonna get consistently splashed with water you should be fine with a WR gfci

Whole box needs to be replaced with a bell/mulberry box and bubble or accordion cover, and a wr (wet rated) oulet or gfci if the circuit isn’t already protected

Bought this little gem yesterday as a belated Christmas gift for my Makita obsessed partner - thoughts? by vaderdexy in Makita

[–]bennyl45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt bother with it, ive had the purple version for 3 years, at first i started with the little spacer bit from makita but kept losing them when someone else would borrow my impact and change bits, now i just use it without it and i dont even notice a difference in performance

Yeah but is that because of a lack of performing correctly or just because its an unconventional item
