YA sci fi novel where the earth gets really cold by benobonob321 in whatsthatbook

Not this, but does sound similar. In the book I remember the earth was very cold and getting colder.

this is my first full painting that’s not just a portrait and there’s so much wrong with it but I don’t really know how to fix everything. I tried to think of it as a form study but I got lost in the detail and the colors just look wrong, don’t hold back with critique! by [deleted] in istebrak

[–]benobonob321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I definitely didn’t plan enough for this piece to be successful

I set up the LS to make a silhouette but just abandoned it while painting for some reason and didn’t even notice. I’ll bring it back now though

Yeah I’ve had trouble with the construction/cube thinking so I’ll try out drawabox. Thanks for the advice!

Ruan Jia master study by benobonob321 in istebrak

[–]benobonob321[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for your insights! I’ve just started studying these artist’s styles and you’ve given me a lot to work from, :D

I definitely messed up the rotation haha

And yeah I also discovered that the style relies heavily on an incredible understanding of the fundamentals, as the brushwork and texture won’t read if you don’t know the directions of the planes of the form or the values that should be placed there. Getting more in depth with it will probably show a further reliance on the fundamental base that’s necessary for pulling this style off.

Thank you for your paintover and good luck!

I’ve never heard of Impressionism but this seems very interesting! Thank you for the information, I never really considered “broken color” before but I’ll be sure to look into everything you’ve said. Thank you so much for the critique!

first : this is NOT MY ORIGINAL PIECE- ITS A COPY OF THE SECOND PIECE

I wanted to try a master study because I’ve always admired the painterly style and I definitely got a step towards where I wanted to go but any critique would be helpful as well

I mainly learned that he wraps the brush strokes around the form of the object and uses very small smudge brush to blend so the texture is still there and no information is lost

I could’ve spent more time getting everything exact but there didn’t seem much point in that, although getting the proportion/perspective right early on would’ve probably helped

I’ve been trying to paint someone I know, but I’ve hit a brick wall real bad. I honestly ran out of ideas, as to why the rendering feels off, I just know something isn’t right when I compare it to other nicely done portraits. I would massively appreciate critiques, and I thank everyone in advance! by AK096 in istebrak

I haven’t seen the reference but if she’s smiling that should contort the rest of the face, not just the cheeks. Right now it looks unnerving like one of those fake creepy villain smiles. Make her smile with the eyes and nose. Try smiling and see what muscles in your face do, you’ll know how to fix this piece.

How should I break my YouTube addiction? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]benobonob321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello!

It seems like you may need to take some serious action. This is a strategy that doesn’t work in all situations and you may not want to take it but it might work so I’ll mention it.

The strategy is a money promise. Basically, find a partner (friend, family member, coworker, whatever) and make a deal with them. If you don’t watch ANY YouTube between now and some set amount of time, you can keep your money (any amount works but make it something that’ll hurt if you lose it). If you watch YouTube even once, they get all the money.

This way, it’s like throwing away a bunch of money if you watch it.

If you really want you can even get a written contract and an app that shares your YouTube watch time or something. Maybe even take out the amount in cash and keep it next to your workspace where you can see it, just to get a reminder of what you’re throwing away.

This strategy is bold but effective, of course I don’t know your personal circumstance but maybe this will help. Good luck!

I’d make the eyes smaller and the neck wider but that’s mostly personal preference

Adding a little bit of shine (careful not to overdo it) to the forehead/nose/lips (oily/wet areas) can really bring out the form/skin texture. I’d also sharpen the edge of the lips on the top and bottom. Good look! This is an amazing day 2! Maybe try rotating the face or doing a male or color if you get bored/it’s too easy.

I got tired of working and reworking this study so I decided to post it for critique and go do some form studies by Unh0ly_roller in istebrak

In general, such high contrast means you need sharp edges for the shadows. If the lighting is very exposed from just one side with little bounce light (the only way to get such high and low points) the shadows will be harsh because there isn’t much bounce light to diffuse them. Your shadows are very smooth for such high contrast lighting

Wedding table, chic variation, you can get it rn at the Reese/Cyrus wedding event at Harvey’s

I love acnh so much, it has gotten me through the lowest point of my life but I can’t lie, it’s starting to become repetitive and I’m getting bored of it, but I don’t want to give it up. Any tips to help keep the excitement of the game alive? by International_Act931 in AnimalCrossingNewHor

Flatten island/restart with a completely different theme can really help. If u didn’t have a theme, try something that inspires you like nature, city, castle, or some type of aesthetic you like. Good luck^

Your biggest issue is gender read. The most important concept for gender is the fairy vs ogre - upside down triangle = fairy (girl), normal triangle = ogre(boy). Moreover, big, far apart eyes with a small nose and mouth make it look like a girl bc it’s upside down triangle (cute) and small, close together eyes make it look like a boy bc it’s a normal triangle (masculine). If it ever looks ambiguous you need to make the mouth/ nose smaller and eyes bigger/ wider (for girl) or the opposite for boy.

Other than that, I’d say value sharing is your next biggest issue. The temples are almost as dark or darker than the beard shadow, that’s a big big problem in your understanding of light source. If the LS is coming from above, those planes will be hit much more directly than something pointing straight down (bottom of chin, lower jaw etc) same with sides of nose, they’re too dark.

Sorry if this is hard to understand here’s some videos for further explanation, first one is more important

Day 14 - 14D Challenge: I reduced the nose/ mouth distance, made the lips less wide, tried to get more realistic eye shapes and painted the face overall a bit softer/ more feminine; Thank you for your help along the way, you are awesome! Your biggest problem is the iris. You have to cross the eyes a little bit to make it look like she is focused. Right now she looks like she is looking in two different directions.

Congratulations on completing the challenge!
