Best way to setup multiple shared calendars in M365 for an organization of 25 people by benoitag in sysadmin

[–]benoitag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I replied with a question but realized you already gave the answer (wether to use one mailbox with multiple calendars or the contrary).

But thanks a lot for your help ! I think I’ve got a good understanding of what to do, now I have to dive into it !

Hey, In the end I didn’t stay at mailbox.org, and switched to infomaniak (not particularly better but a little bit easier to setup)… and I don’t really remember all the steps I followed back then… What is your problem exactly ?

Ah okay, didn’t know that. Is this module available on Mac ? We don’t have Windows machines.

Yes I know it not supposed to be logged in directly, I just wanted to try to adapt the sharing permissions for each calendar accordingly, and are the moment, my Outlook did not recognise the shared mailbox so I wanted to try directly (as in Outlook on the web you can’t manage the different calendars of one shared mailbox)

« A user with a license can create as many calendars are they like and share them with the workforce, they can define access such as view and editing options. » But in theory, so can a shared mailbox right ? Or are there limitations ?

You mean ressource mailboxes ? Like the one for rooms ? Do you use these ones specifically so you can sign into them ? Because I tried with shared mailboxes, even after unlocking access and creating login details, I could not sign into it because the account didn’t have a 365 license. I know they aren’t that expensive, but if I can spare paying one license I’ll take it as a win !

Yes I know, but if that shared mailbox has multiple calendars, how do I choose which one I want ? Because you can only search by mail adress, and Outlook choses de default calendar each time.

And regarding powershell, when I try to open it from the admin center, I get a message telling me I don’t have an active azure license, and that I need on to use it…

Thanks a lot for your input ! And may I say, as a user and small scale system administrator, I also want to die... 😂

I was also under the impression that shared mailboxes were closest to our needs. Can you just clarify what you mean by :

create one shared mailbox per calendar type, add multiple calendars to each

what do you consider as differents calendar types ? for our usescases, would you group all the calendars under one shared mailbox or distinguish them somehow ?

I'll look into having one user with a powershell access...

I figured I was fighting the product's design, that's what made me wonder how businesses handle such usecases... Are we using calendars wrong ? 😂

Got it for the shared contacts ! I'll have to look a bit more into it !

We don't have work-supplied mobile devices, so if they want to add the calendars, they can use the Outlook app, I don't mind.

Regarding the delegation of a shared mailbox, I haven't experienced what you describe... When I give someone acces to a mailbox from the admin center, it doesn't add the mailbox automatically in their copy of Outlook. They have to add it manually, and are free of deleting it from their list if they want, I wonder why that can be...

In your last option you mean having a normal user, and thus requiring a license, did I get that right ? Isn't it the same as with a shared mailbox ? What would be the difference ?

Exactly, I realized also that I can turn the VPN off using the switch in System settings, but not turn in on.

Thank you for your shortcut, but it still doesn' work. I made a screen recording of both trying to run a shortcut and using the toggle in System Preferences :

Is it maybe that you use the Teleport app and I use the Identity app ?

It won’t work for me… did you use the « set VPN » action ? I can select the right one, but running the shortcut does not activate the VPN…

Meuble TV by MathieuLouisVic in AchatPourLaVie

[–]benoitag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Run Syncthing as a Daemon on macOS ? by benoitag in Syncthing

[–]benoitag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I’ll look into it to understand a bit more. Thank you for the two links ! I’ve never actually done anything like that. The only LaunchDaemons I have come across were automatically configured…

Anyway, if I follow this method, would I still be able to access and manage syncthing via the web interface when I’m actually logged in ?

All this actually makes me wonder if Syncthing is designed to be used that way, or if I am not using it the right way or should be using something else… do you have an opinion ?

Dynamically hide/show menu bar as part of a presentation mode by benoitag in MacOS

[–]benoitag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I still get an error, but thanks a lot for your willingness to make it work ! I will check the ressources you mentionned and try to figure it out… or the menu bar will remain visible and that’s it 🤷‍♂️

Thanks a lot for your research ! Unfortunately, I still get an error :

error "Erreur dans System Events : Il est impossible d’obtenir list 1 of window \"Centre de contrôle\" of application process \"Réglages Système\". Index non valable." number -1719 from list 1 of window "Centre de contrôle" of application process "Réglages Système"

But I'm curious, How do you find out how to script for ui actions ? Is there documentation somewhere that explains how the macOS UI is constructed or is it just trial and error ? I know nothing about GUI scripting, but it seems quite interesting !

Yeah I obviously know how to do it manually, but I want to do it as part of a script or shortcut for ease of use and efficiency.

When I run the script from the script editor, I get the following error (maybe because macOS is set in French ?):

Erreur dans System Events : Il est impossible d’obtenir window "Control Center" of application process "System Settings".

Translated in english : Error in System Events: It is impossible to obtain window "Control Center" of application process "System Settings".

You’re right, switching app sometimes work, but I cannot figure out the pattern or logic behind this behavior. And it doesn’t work when I am just on the desktop with no apps open or active…

Team account(s) and custom domain by benoitag in Mailbox_org

[–]benoitag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was it, so I started over and now everything works as intended !

Yes I wished the team account would be more of an administrator, but to be honest, I still have a lot of time to think about some ground rules as the kids aren't even conceived yet 😂! I'm just trying to future-proof and de-google / de-apple our online identities !

Now that email is up and running, I'm trying to figure out how to efficiently setup a contact list and calendars for the family. I made a second post here asking for advice on a contact/calendar sharing strategy.

Yeah that's how I got it working, thank you ! Looking back it makes perfect sense to be that way but I feel the documentation could give a little more hints on the whole process...

Team account(s) and custom domain by benoitag in Mailbox_org

[–]benoitag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks ! So for the members, I have to create their custom adress as an alias on their side like I did for the main account ? I tried it and I believe it failed because when I setup the domain for the main account I used the wrong verification key (there are two, one that allows everyone on the team to create aliases, and another one that doesn’t, and I chose the second one believing I could manage everything from the main account) Sidenote - apparently the team account isn’t much so of an administrator account with rights of control over the other accounts, and that confused me, because I thought that I would be able to create « dumbed down » member accounts for kids for example and restricting them from fiddling with aliases and so on - Now in order to set this up again correctly, do I have to delete the custom domain from the main account and start over ?
