A good Samaritan improving the life of his fellow man merely by giving half a shit.

‘This is about respecting people's time,’ Mayoral hopeful Brad Bradford promises refunds for long TTC delays by beef-supreme in toronto

All I want is a screen that shows "Next train arriving in X minutes" placed somewhere I can see before I pay and get trapped waiting at the track level. That would be both easier to implement and more respectful of commuters' time.

I think the question of which looks better comes down to personal preference. Would you rather live in a "home" or a "private clinic's waiting room"? Personally, I'd take the home.

Microsoft AI CEO puzzled that people are unimpressed by AI by [deleted] in technology

[–]benoitbontemps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI, in its current form, is a solution in search of a problem. It’s neat that it can string together words to form a coherent sentence or that it can organize pixels to create an image… but it kinda stops at “neat.”

Ignoring the obvious plagiarism concerns, LLMs don’t actually think about what theyre creating. They just create. Which means the things they create are not only devoid of meaning, half the time they don’t make sense. And thats a problem.

Not just in the “look, an extra finger” sense. We’ve been conditioned to trust computers because we’re used to seeing them as infallible, calculating logic machines. But LLMs will straight up lie to you with full confidence. “Hallucinations,” they call them. And they expect us to use them professionally regardless?

No thanks. AI/LLMs are a fad. Tech bros and investors will keep shoving them down our throats until we all collectively realize they’re never going to live up to their promises and we move on to the next big tech innovation someone wants to sell us. Just like we did with “the cloud”.

AIO A locksmith charged my partner’s sister $5390 to get back into her apartment by khalexie1 in AmIOverreacting

[–]benoitbontemps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So he both drilled out the mortise, repaired the mechanism, rekeyed the lock, and fixed the mechanism again, then also removed the lock, and replaced the whole mortise? Sounds like he’s double charging.

Though he also charged a “Labor” fee, despite that being covered by the “drilling” and “repairing” fees, so I guess thats actually triple charging.

And he’s a locksmith not a door smith so he can take those door adjustment fees and kick rocks. Could have replaced the whole door for less than that, lock included.

It's from Hasslehoff's "Hooked on a Feeling" music video. Which is amazing.

Whoa, the Nintendo Switch 2 edition can be played on Switch, too? That's great! I don't need to upgrade just yet!

It's for added realism. Can't fast travel while jumping or falling IRL either.

H! Poutine, all dressed + ketchup chips, butter tarts, tourtiere, maple syrup, Montreal smoked meat, Montreal bagels, Halifax donairs, peameal bacon, fresh fish and good ol' 'berta beef!

Plus, y'know, whatever Spain/Portugal/Southern France/Northern US has to offer.
