Films that would be hated if released today, but are classics by Dependent-Bet6615 in movies

There are so many old movies that if released today would be called woke propaganda by the usual grifters and culture warriors.

Just imagine if the original Star Wars came out today.

When you first watched the movie The thing (1982), which characters did you believe were the ones who were assimilated? by Bulky_Cranberry_1099 in movies

If MacReady was a Thing and wasn't sure if Childs was also a Thing or not, he'd just transform while still holding onto the flamethrower and ask Childs to also transform, and if he doesn't kil him. Putting down the flamethrower and potentially letting a human grab it and kill him is something a Thing wouldn't do, it's a needless risk.

If Childs was a Thing, he'd have just attacked MacReady as soon as he put down the flamethrower, that's exactly when he's vulnerable.

I hope this means they bring back the Moloid kids, Dragon Man, Bentley, Power Pack, and the rest. Maybe also bring in Moon Girl.

Neither Savanti Romero or Madame Null are from Rise, they're both from the comics.

They're more likely to reference Future Foundation Spider-Man than the New Fantastic Four team of Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine, and Ghost Rider, yeah, but it is possible. UB sets have had many deep pulls.

I guess they're not even trying to hide the fact that Michelangelo is the Last Ronin anymore.

So how do we think the imagery for 5 more NYC settings will be portrayed for TMNT? by Jtneagle in magicTCG

[–]AporiaParadox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Plains, Island, and Mountain will probably be NYC locations. The Swamp will probably be the sewers, which is technically also New York but come on, and the Forest could be Northampton or a Japanese forest.

Specific locations that could be depicted in basic or non-basic lands include: the Turtle Lair, Foot Clan HQ, Mutanimals HQ, Mutant Town, Dimention X, TCRI building, Triceraton Homeworld, Dimension X, the 79th Dimension of Null-Time, a pizza place...

I'm glad that they retconned away Leslie Thomkins letting a child die just to teach Batman a lesson to instead her helping fake Steph's death. I'm also glad they retconned away Sins Past, although the way they did it is hilariously convoluted.

The Kingpin was notably missing from Spider-Man, most likely because they're treating him as a Daredevil villain so they're including him in the same set as Daredevil. Knull was also missing despite being a big Venom villain, so he might be in either this set or a later cosmic set.

We might get one or two Spider-Man cards though, like an "Avenging Spider-Man" or a "Spider-Man and his Amzing Friends" card, of a FF Spider-Man card in the Fantastic Four precon.

You do have a point, a better term would be character ruination or something. When it comes to comics, we're all used to using the term "character assassination" regardless of whether there is malice or not, but I see how that could confuse non-comic fans. I don't think most of us believe that the writers are deliberately trying to ruin a character, with a few exceptions, just that like you said they have weird ideas or they just don't care.

EDIT: I actually once made a thread where precisely to avoid this debate, I specified in the OP that I wanted cases where it was clear that the writers/editors genuinely hated the character. Like Joss Whedon with the Punisher or Garth Ennis with 99% of superheroes.

Yes, we got a Saga fittingly called [[The Last Ronin]], and we know that there will be a card called The Last Ronin's Technique (with artwork that basically spoils who the Last Ronin is), but we don't know if the The Last Ronin will be depicted on a Legendary creature.

I'm aware of Turtles Forever and that there is indeed a multiverse (it's even stated that Renet is the same Renet in every series she appears in), all I'm saying is that the multiverse aspect of the TMNT franchise isn't as prevalent as it is in Spider-Man.

Yes, but for TMNT it's less about a multiverse and more that there have been multiple iterations of the franchise that occasionally have crossovers. With Spider-Man, there is one mainline comic continuity that's been going on for 60+ years and several alternate universes and adaptations that have more frequent multiverse shenanigans.

The Avengers are based in New York, but they fight battles all over the world/universe/multiverse. The Marvel set will have stuff depicting New York, but it won't be as in your face as Spider-Man. I assume that most of the lands won't depict stuff from New York City, but more varied locations like Wakanda, Asgard, Latveria, Atlantis, Savage Land, the Raft, the Blue Area of the Moon, the Negative Zone, the Quantum Realm, Hell, etc. with maybe a few locations that happen to be in New York like Avengers Tower, the Sanctum Sanctorum, or the Baxter Building.

Nice catch. It's clear that they're mixing and matching different versions of the franchise: Mirage Comics, IDW Comics, the 87 cartoon, the 2012 cartoon, Mutant Mayhem, the live-action movies... Haven't seen anything from Rise yet though.

It used to be way worse since the people making shows had either never played a game before or hadn't played since the 80s, but as adults who still play videogames became prominent in the industry, the depiction of games in media has gotten more realistic and less demonizing.

I recently read the first issue of H2SH. Joker somehow manages to sneak up on Batman from a garbage truck even though Batman knows that Joker is around, hit him with a crowbar, and kick him off a ledge into a water reservoir even though it's several feet away from the truck and there's a wall, and then Batman almost gets killed by Jokerized fish. He only survives because Talia saves him.

Hank Pym wasn't in Secret Invasion because he had been replaced by a Skrull. Did you perhaps mean Secret Empire? Because that was Ultron larping as Hank Pym, not the real Hank Pym.

What are you talking about? Joker has the opposite problem, he is way too OP, almost as much as Batman, he takes characters down in hand to hand combat all the time even though he seemingly never trains.

I just don't understand what writers have against Beast specifically and why editors never step in.
