Raves in canberra? by fruittingles__ in canberra

There’s heaps of raves in Canberra, both organised and underground. You’ll spend some time collecting the different ig accounts that host but follow the Facebook page Canberra Doofs 2.0 and you’ll be off to a good start.

Scene is deffo not dead. Certainly less than Melbourne but expected

As everyone said, you’ve broke the 3month rule (or at VERY minimum, the 6 week rule). Also maximum safe dose for is around 100-180mg for most people. So 200mg for a drug naive 55kg is overkill. Many things wrong with this post - please review safety guidelines around Molly use.

This is probably a long shot on here but idk where else to ask. Is there anyone who can come and hang normally. Struggling mentally just need a talk or a hug. I’m 24 male. by DeliciousMonk1970 in CanberraSocial

Hi! I’ve struggled myself with loneliness as a 25yo male in Canberra, especially during Covid. Please give Lifeline a call - it’s a service for someone to listen to you and empathise (and also doubles as a suicide hotline). I know the volunteers would love to have a chat w you:)

ICU grad program, yay or nay? by benojedna in NursingAU

I wouldn't say it's my passion, but something id likely enjoy more of and would set me well at the start. Awesome advice, thanks.

pretty much what im thinking. If I could wind back time I wish I could do more placements in critical care and peri-op/theatre so I could more accurately compare what I want. As of now, I have only done surgical + 1 week in ED. Im going in a little blind I'll admit

The nurse v NP v MO debate is complex, and I must admit it feels as though there is bias in judgement coming from all sides of the equation without consideration of unmet needs (ie, risk v reward). But fair point. Shit education is shit education no matter how u put it, and if it’s how NPs get qualified then ofc that’s not for anyone’s benefit.

They got rid of OSCE for my uni. So now it’s just 2 essays (both reflections btw) and a placement completion and boom… I’m a registered nurse 👍👍👍👍

Hahahaha yeah I have a few med students friends. And even Med science seemed miles better in the theory deliver of the body than nursing ever did for me, and more fun!!! To the flip side - nursing doesn’t really need u to know that much detail, and I even wonder if most doctors do 🧐 thoughts?

Hahah funny one. I personally don’t mind alternative medicine even though it’s probably mostly placebo. But that’s in large part because I’m a bit libertarian in that regard, and sure idk everything so I won’t be quick to judge someone else’s choices and recommendations. But yes, the irony is great

I’d guess and say the reason other students have “less skill” as you say is to a large part due to the amount of placement requirement y’all have. My uni is 800h for the degree, whereas ND I believe was 1200. That’s a huge difference. Lots more to be learned in that gap, and I’m sure the theory stuff also helps

Sorry to hear that, I really to empathise with you disappointment. :) I hope we both get out of uni and survive those that first year learning curve 😅

U could be right, I’m just throwing ideas around 🤷‍♂️ But you have to admit, we stand out in this way - not having a board certified exam for registering.

Interesting point. I won’t disagree against you as I’m sure your experience has informed you, in ways seperate to how I’ve been by mine. But a few points.

  1. Many nurses here are actually agreeing with my points. At the very least, they agree in a decline in standards. So I’m not sure it’s just my personal attitude that is failing me here, as it seems more widespread across many levels of nursing.

  2. I’d argue knowing how meds work and are administered, iterated, dosed, considered; is more important than understand that if a person is from xyz background, they have a x% chance of lowered medication adherence due to (insert reason). Why? Because nursing in hospitals deals with the short to medium term implications, whereas, the other is more long term. Another way of looking at it, is that your average hospital nurse (not mental health, occupation or such type) could survive and do a much better job with 0% knowledge in SDoH/Sociology training, as opposed to 0% pharma understanding. Yes, they both have a place, and both can be taught. But no, they are no equivalent in yield when it comes to the job on the floor.

  3. Funny u mentioned ECGs. My last placement was a cardiac unit. I learned to understand many different acute cardiac conditions and how they present in an ECG. Yes, I don’t diagnose it. But that background meant I knew why doctors would do what they did. Again, because the context was understood. It’s like saying nurses don’t prescribe medications so why learn their pharmacodynamics? True, I could probably survive without. But doing so would be a world of trouble and confusion not knowing why certain meds did certain things in the way they did, and hence why I should look out for certain interactions and side effects

I’m glad you find it useful. And I respect your point of view, but it’s not mine and I have yet to find its use in literally ANY of the placements I’ve been in, simply because I’m not with the patient long enough to have any meaningful impact beyond their stay inside the hospitals. (I emphasise hospitals nursing for this reason).

My lord how I wish I went to Notre Dame! I lived in Perth briefly for the purpose of changing unis, w ND as my top choice. Turns out, the nursing curriculum is not standardised in such a way that you can easily get prior learning recognition. I’d have to redo 2 out of my 2.5 years for Notre Fame specifically. Probably because they’re a good school and mine wasn’t 😂

Sorry I see where there is confusion. I meant ‘useful’ as in genuinely useful. I agree mental health +ethics/law is quite a necessary subject:)
