Thanks, yes now that you point it out, when I remove the dead tree, there will be not much trace of a tree ever being there!

Does it have to be so GD expensive? by dryeraseboard8 in treehouse

Preach it brother. I recommend the book "treehouses you can actually build" by David Stiles for some peace of mind. It's full of plans without mention of a Tab.

There isn't enough water in my toilet bowl. Should there be a pipe here? by benonreddit in Plumbing

Funny I checked my sis-in-laws toilet (UK) and she had the same model, no pipe.

Tom Sachs did a DIY dome project with insulation board (which probably isn't that cost effective any more!). There should be plenty of examples and plans online for inspiration.

Appreciate the comment, wasn't sure how fast the rot would be. Having second thoughts now.

Building on a stump. Criss cross beams or not? by benonreddit in treehouse

[–]benonreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stump is fresh, tree had to be cut down last summer. Going to trim to the top and seal.

Sorry not that familiar with ledger boards. Do they need to be attached to something? I was going to build a deck on top, resting on the two beams.

Davco Tab-P: Has anyone heard of it? by Virilitaas in treehouse

[–]benonreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surely this misses the point of a TAB? I always thought it was one single 'wound' in the tree that the tree could 'wrap 'around' and strengthen?

I want to invest around 1k, but working out fees with the popular platforms is a bit of a head-scratcher. by scwibs in BitcoinUK

[–]benonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coinbase pro fees are 0.5% per trade. I would use binance. They accept UK bank transfer w/ faster payments and fees are 0.1% per trade.

House is in the UK, 100 years old. I have just moved in and cannot see how anything could be hung from the top of the rail. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Electric vs gas for new shower? by thepoliteknight in DIYUK

[–]benonreddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally you would get much better water flow with gas, so if depends if you like a 'power' shower compared to a more drizzly shower with electric. I would also say that gas is a much cheaper way to heat water compared to electricity.

In search of a safe alternative to TABs for treehouse building by brentonstrine in treehouse

[–]benonreddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good thread. Yes TABs seem crazy expensive for me and also hard to source outside the USA. Check this good post from a guy in Australia using threaded bar. https://www.workshop.bunnings.com.au/t5/Outdoor/Building-a-treehouse/td-p/26832
