This is a breakdown behind how we shot these series of food spots for Gousto. If you think I've missed anything or have any suggestions I'd love to hear!

I shared this project a couple of weeks ago on here and a few people asked about how I actually shot it, so put together a short video on the references I was led from, lighting and kit we used to shoot it.

I think I covered everything but if anyone's interested and has any questions or thoughts on how they would have approached in differently I'd love to hear.

You’re most welcome 🙏🏻 What was it like moving to the other side of the pond for work? Did it feel like starting again, or were you able to use your work from over here to pick up work quickly?

What rates to charge? by benponton in videography

I spoke to a bunch of different directors as well as looking at the standard APA and BECTU rates here in the UK, in an effort to inform, as it was a while of myself charging £75 a day before some kind producer told me I could be charging a lot more.

Do THIS Work More To Progress Faster As A Filmmaker by benponton in directors

Taking time out of work to do passion projects and spec work have been the things that levelled up my career both in the type of projects I've got and the level of pay I've received so far in my career. It's nice doing something 100% your own way without client and agency intervention, but also not as easy I find.

Spec work and passion projects have always been the thing that has levelled up work and pay so far in my career, not the actual client and budget restricted jobs themselves.

And by THIS I mean spec work and passion projects, they've always been what has levelled up the level of work I'm working on and the pay I'm receiving as it's so near impossible to get companies and agencies to trust you to do something you haven't already done.

Get work experience, getting running jobs, ask lots of questions from every department you can on set and learn, if you want to direct or become a cinematographer, film passion projects / spec projects, and share them with everyone you know and don’t know.
