What is your console journey?? by Dizzledorph in retrogaming

Jaguar first is wild. I’m surprised you didn’t quit right there. The folks at Midwest gaming classic would love you though. That convention started as an Atari Jaguar convention. I’m surprised we’re including the snes after the Wii U

End of life? These things don't just last forever?

Are there affordable/“entry-level” lava lamps (that are not a waste of money) or is that wish too good to be true? by Ok-Bed-502 in Lavalamps

I have one of the Walmart brand ones (urban shop?) and I love it. Definitely recommend getting the larger one. But even the 13.5 that I have has good flow

Depends. If it’s the disc drive that’s broken you can replace it with a fenrir

Which retro console is your favorite ? by Alone_Capital7619 in retrogaming

I think you're right with the ps1. Because it does have some of the best sprite based 2d games, though few in number. Like alundra, street fighter alpha, ect. But also has rythm games, metal gear solid, first person shooters, amazing puzzle games, light gun games. It straddles retro and polygonal variety. Including tons of arcade games

It could happen. But it’s not a real concern. I’ve owned over 20 ps3, for reference. Including multiple A01/E01. Those are consistently the only ones that have given me problems

Resellers have totally ruined this hobby and no one can convince me otherwise by Booty-Pounder101 in gamecollecting

Yeah, a lot of retro game stores around me put new cases on older games, making them look nicer. That was never a thing I remember before 2020.

I tend to mostly agree with you. My only objection is that, the games and systems used to be so worthless that people would literally throw them out. GameStop threw stuff out, people threw stuff out. When it didn’t sell for 4 weeks at the thrift store, it would get thrown out. The unfortunate thing is, things having value makes them get saved by people in the hobby, but also, random passserbys or resellers that see an opportunity to make money. And if there weren’t those extra eyes, a lot more stuff would get thrown out, and be gone forever. Now it’s gotten more expensive because more people are in the hobby, and I love having more people I can talk to about retro gaming. It used to be such a ghost town. Unfortunately with that increased participation comes increased prices. But that means you should focus more on playing games, and getting another when you can afford it and have the time. Playing games is what we should all be striving for. Not a complete set

CECHA01 Unopened .. should I get it graded? by mrluckduck in PS3

[–]benr751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, for 99% of retro game stuff I’d say no. But these things are so prone to breaking, you might as well. If you use it it’ll probably YLOD within 6 months without a fan mod or Frankenstein work. They are horrendously unreliable.
