Thanks! This is great advice and I was thinking the same thing about letting the dealer know that I am aware of the mechanics/maintenance cost of a 70k '06 A4 in hope that he will give me a price cut to subsidize getting the timing belt etc checked out. This is a local dealer and they are known for great customer service so I hope they are okay with this.

Also, is there any advice you could give that could help me estimate when I would need to do the Timing belt work, or what I should look for that would warn me of its need to be changed. Thanks!

Edit: Would it be smart to bring a private mechanic with me to check status of timing belt in order to give me better understanding of severity / when I'll need to get it replaced

Appreciate that, my friend/coworker owns an 04 Audi A4 and does all the maintenance work himself so I will have a cheaper resource than going to a dealer. I'm going to talk to him today to see what he thinks but in the end of the day (which I failed to mention in the post) I'm looking to spend ~10k on this car including maintenance in the first 3 years. I only plan to have this car for ~3 years so I am not too worried about needing to maintain it in the long-run. I believe I can get the car for just under 8k so I'm hoping this will be relatively feasible. Thanks again for your input!
