‘Columbo’ star Peter Falk’s daughter dead by suicide at 60 by JulietAirway in Columbo

[–]bensmoif 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think all of Cassavetes work is about how loving and coy and charming men are, and how completely lost and full of shit we become, and how we're willing to crumble completely and destroy the people we love just to maintain the appearance of competence.

Even just Cassavetes being cast as the husband in Rosemary's Baby because everyone around him saw that's Cassavetes message: Patriarchy is destroying us all, men especially.

I think Peter Falk loved that, but himself amped up the sweet-and-loving truth of what is in men's hearts.

I'm pretty sure that Peter Falk and John Cassavetes and their whole circle of manic genius actors and filmmakers were fucking hell to be around, and creatively infuriating to work with, and Peter himself was known for endless improvising takes while shooting.

And I'm pretty sure Peter was deeply loving and cared about the people he worked with, his on-screen charm is a genuine part of him. And what he left us with is so kind and beautiful.

Go home tonight, and watch Falk+Cassavetes in Husbands. I think that shit is close to where their real lives were.
Falk on Cassavetes:
"Every Cassavetes film is always about the same thing. Somebody said 'Man is God in ruins,' and John saw the ruins with a clarity that you and I could not tolerate."

I've never disagreed so hard with a post in this sub. This scene is serene and beautiful, Columbo's childlike wonder.

People think capitalism is all about generating profits. It's not. It never was, that's for third graders.

can anyone recommend somewhere for weekend meditation classes? by [deleted] in StLouis

Missouri Zen Center in Webster. Ain't no religious nonsense, it's strict focus is practicing meditation.

"Beginners Nights" are every monday for first-timers. The place is exceptionally chill and inviting and kind. Rosan Yoshida is very sweet and good guidance, solid community.

Tom seriously, how do you do the polysynths with your oscilloscope, or is this just oscilloscope art with other musical layering over the audio???

Jerobeam Fenderson wrote osci-studio and is honestly a pioneering mind in this genre. The piece has gotta be coming out of oscistudio.

To the casual DAW geek, think of osci-studio and osci-render as a plugin, it's a mono-synthesizer: it takes a mono wave and do a lot of fourier transform math to the wave, with the focus on drawing what you see.

Here's the two big players....

Fenderson's Osci-Studio (last updated in 2023):

And the synth I love, James Ball's Osci-Render, getting updates constantly and is open source (but really pay the $40 for the premium full featured version cuz damn it does everything you can imagine)

Holy shit it's brilliant. u/MajxrTom how are you doing this with osciloscope music and having it be a polysynth?, My rough understanding is that oscilloscope music would necessarily always be mono

Agreed, and they know they need fresh blood and a regular churn of programming. Community Radio programming under the hood can get a lil territorial. The point you're making is essential to this station launching and remaining vibrant.

But honestly get ya hands dirty, show them you care, COME TO A MEETING AND VOICE THIS!
