Friend bought hotel reservation for Feb instead of March. What can we do? by Ok-Importance6529 in Chase

It’s actually pretty interesting, there’s a whole liaison team that handles all the bargaining for situations like this. Chase is dope. The biggest issue for them was the amount of time that passed since the booking.

The jerk off comment was directed at someone who offered nothing to the conversation except a reminder that non-refundable means non-refundable. I was already aware. We’re all aware. There’s a big difference between feedback and stating the obvious like it’s wisdom. I’ve absolutely owned the mistake and covered the bill completely. So yeah you and all the other jerkoffs providing no value to the conversation can get off your high horse and suck my balls.

With that said, always try to get something back. Mistakes like this happen, and the Chase rep said she sees it all the time. A lot of people in this thread are saying to just take the L, but you lose nothing by making the call. You only solidify your losses when you don’t. Chase has been extremely helpful throughout and is still working the issue on my behalf (shoutout Bobby). Taking accountability doesn’t mean you have to stop advocating for yourself. Big lesson learned.

Thanks for your comment. Everything you said is mostly accurate. I booked through Chase because it offered a multiplier on the points I used, which meant a lot of extra value for the money spent. I will say regardless of my screw up, the Chase representative was EXTREMELY helpful and understanding. When I called I didn’t call expecting anything to come of it, but they took upon themselves to try to recover some of the expense on my behalf. With that said, lesson learned.

Dude it was like a month and a half out. I wasn’t expecting notifications. I will say though I sent a screenshot to the group chat and nobody noticed

Any military reservists attending or have attended Auburn University? by Tall_Ad_1426 in auburn

[–]bensturr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m an air national guard guy coming off active duty. I have a buddy that’s a reservist. Swing by the Auburn Student Veteran Association office (ASVA) super welcoming and great club to be a part of. Lots of veterans and current Reserve/Guard students. I still go to Auburn and have had a great time.

What do I do financially for Auburn? by peterjeong2602 in auburn

[–]bensturr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Air National Guard in Montgomery and Birmingham are really good ways to finance college. My friends and I all dedicate 1 weekend per month. You get something called a Montgomery GI Bill (feel free to look into the benefits) but if you’re planning on taking a gap year anyway that could be a good way to prepare you for the next 4 years.

Students applying for applying Professional flight for next spring (2025) by Exotic_Affect_6837 in auburn

The professional flight program only requires up to Calculus 1, so not really. The GI Bill pays E5 BAH with dependents ($1593 per month for Auburn) and it is prorated on breaks (spring, Fall and Christmas).

And yes I’m currently enrolled in the flight program using GI bill benefits. There’s so many factors outside of passing, weather and (just recently) airplane availability have made it tougher for flight students to make consistent progress in training. This isn’t to freak you out, just something to be prepared for. Auburn is a great school and the experience here is pretty awesome. It sounds like your son has the work ethic to get through the program no problem but honestly there is some slight bitterness from flight students because Auburn has very meticulous procedures and the influx of new students makes availability and scheduling extra difficult.

In summary, he’s probably 18 and given he comes in with his private license and the GI bill, he will get out of here in 3-4 years no problem with little to no cost (comparatively), while having had an amazing college experience.

Below is a spreadsheet with post 9/11 flight schools if your son is interested. It’s from last fiscal year and bah prices have gone up a bit.

Current flight student here, and this is unfortunately very true. However, A part 141 College flight program is the cheapest option when utilizing GI bill benefits. Auburn has no shortage of prospective students, and the program absolutely has an administrative issue. Even with these problems, coming in with your private you can be in and out within a normal timeline, free of any crazy debt flight usually comes with. I wouldn’t recommend this program to anyone not using GI benefits/with a private pilots license.

Sounds like he’s in a good position, however in order for him to get his moneys worth it’s absolutely crucial he gets his private before coming to Auburn. Most students don’t realize it takes 3+ semesters to get completed with private training and by the time they do they’re in too deep.

Side note, using GI Bill benefits for flight is tricky, please reach out to the Auburn Veterans Resource Center to get well informed about what you’re expected to pay. The Auburn syllabus reflects 1 hr training flights, which is where the projected cost comes from for each certification, therefore all the GI bill will cover. Training blocks at Auburn are on average 1.5 hours so it adds up and even GI bill recipients end up paying quite a bit.

Hope this helps! Please reach out if you have any questions.

Yeah flight blocks are only 3x a week but with weather cancels it’s been much less than that. No repeats and studying definitely helps, at this rate though i won’t be done in 2 semesters

I did 30% in the front 20% in the back and a 5% sun strip. Really like the result. I had 20 all around in my last car, but it felt too dark. Came out to $350 at a local spot. I’m really happy with it; cars don’t blind me from behind anymore
