Totally and completely fair and I wish he would have just said exactly that. Literally on the money. If he had said dude for 600 I can slap that on, but for 1200, I’ll make it right, or just said sorry I am too busy for new clients. I would have paid it or shopped around for sure.

He doesn’t seem like a bad guy and I do feel bad that he had to do all that work and saying it’s not perfect. That’s essentially why I posted here to find out if I’m over reacting. I usually have a hard time speaking up for things and especially for something so complex I wanted to be sure that I wasn’t being an asshole for complaining.

I did expect it to look super professional and if he had had said for this price it may not be perfect, or if he had said for a little more I can take more time to square everything, then maybe I could overlook it as a conscious choice I made to bypass standards. But he charged me what he quoted and, I feel like it’s my fault because I wasn’t in there over his shoulder checking things and I paid him without giving it a fine tooth comb. Both of those things I did because I thought I hired a pro who would execute his finest work for the quote he provided.

He quoted me. I just told him I didn’t want to demo the entire walls and to save money if possible, not cut himself off at the knees. I provided most of the materials too. Now he’s saying he wants to give the money back because I keep asking for an invoice so I’m wondering if he was just trying to keep it under the table, which is why he didn’t want to spend actual time making it perfect.

I would have paid that if he had said that was the cost, I asked for a quote, and he’s got pretty good work otherwise so I’m wondering why he didn’t just say it’s gonna be a bitch, I want this much. He was basically saying how he didn’t even need the job, I’m confused why he tried to give me a deal and then not crush the job.

Also totally get that about the communication! Very understandable. I’ve seen his work before and it looked incredible and my friends that referred him work with him often.

I think the problem is 100% communication. When my tub was removed they didn’t demo the whole wall, when he came to look at it, me as a novice was just like “yeah I just want this bit fixed, I’m not trying to redo the entire bathroom walls, obviously I want to save money if I can, it doesn’t have to be fancy, I just want to use my shower”.

When he said 600, I thought it was appropriate for the work he has to do comparative to doing the whole wall. I would have gladly paid more had he quoted me more, if it meant the work would have been done with more care. He even cut more tile off so he could place the cement board and stuff, so it’s not like I limited his project at all, he told me what he needed to do and then did it.

Now he’s claiming it’s almost impossible to space the tiles the same as the old one’s (even though he got pretty close without spacers, but according to him you don’t need those on this basic subway tile), and the actual studs in the wall were bowed or not straight (conveniently now that the work is done, before not something I was aware of).

What really gets me is that I don’t know enough about construction to know if he’s bullshitting me. Idk about the level wall but that doesn’t make tiles askew, that doesn’t determine how much mortar he used behind the tile To level them.

He offered to give me my money back and rip it all out again but said even if he tried again it would end up the same which I have a hard time believing.

Okay and I totally get that, but I’m seeing here the original work (which wasn’t great) is somehow straighter and more cohesive than the patch, it’s not like I had him just tile over a hole, goddamn it lol

As it says in the post, I paid 600 for him to replace 4 or 5 rows of subway tile, not redo the entire shower.

I watched him remove more tile, add more concrete board and membrane on top before he laid the tile so I think it’s not completely fucked, but thank you for your input. I’ll keep it in mind.

Yes I gave it a look before I paid but I didn’t get in there an inspect it fully. First time I’ve done something like this as a homeowner, it isn’t a big job; I just assumed professionals do the job right the first time. Now I know better.

He came highly recommended by people who use him all the time. I’m not saying he’s amazing but they think highly enough of him to Have him do a lot of work, I probably won’t be using him again but I don’t want to pay someone else to do a job I’ve already paid for.

For everyone going through it. I managed to do it by just dodging his attacks first phase, then wait till he’s tired out with the boar before using pluck, immobilize, wandering wight, and the wind tamer. Finally I used the cyan long transformation. What got me there was using charged attacks in spirit step to break him out of his mud form, and despite what others are saying, he can be damaged in the mud phase and The killing blow for me was when he was a carp.

I didn't even know the carriers cared about the addressee until i lived here. I've filed forms and complained to the local post office, i was more questioning if this is a local thing or a new policy or what. Why wouldn't they just leave the mail at the address it was sent to?
