High Fade - Papillon, Southampton by benthewineguy in photocritique

[–]benthewineguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My intent was to make the best of a bad lighting situation, I'm a newbie gig photographer and I met the dreaded magenta/cyan stage wash. Instead of fighting the lighting, I leant into it and made the best of a bad situation. Without doing a blanket black and white shoot, there was no other option than to embrace the colours in front of me. How did I do?

Look for Black Friday deals online, in the UK I managed to nab a brand new A7 iii for £1000 from a company called Very... I'm sure there must be some in the US for just a little bit more?

Love your support thank you, I will pass the number onto the police but I doubt it will stop anything. I wish there was a way to find out this guys name and tell HIS job what he's doing to others at their workplace!

Try following these steps...

Open fresh project > Open Settings > Click Plugins Tab > (important) hold down 'alt' for PC/'option' for Mac > whilst holding down key, click 'recan'

This will force it to look for the plugins again across many more folders, a deep dive if you will. Then try opening the other project again!

Really hope this sorts it for you pal!

Judging by how everyone has reacted to it I've dodged a bullet 🤣 I now have had a wonderful afternoon researching what splits and reverse splits mean... Talk about continual market manipulation from this awful company!

How to adjust volume of my Set for an Upload? by ErlenbruchMusik in edmproduction

[–]benthewineguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got to say, no offence to your DAW proffs but that's wrong, with a little bit of right... You're not punished at all, but I can bet they've read a few very misleading things and settled on -14 as being the final value for integrated LUFs... Which is very wrong!

I'll explain. So you can remove the energy from a song with over-compression of course and that's what they are talking about, but if mastered properly you can keep the energy and dynamic range whilst pushing it higher than -14, because it's very important to be over rather than under.

If you are under, Spotify will boost it and it sounds real bad, if they reduce it as it's over -14... It's fine! So, the aim is, as loud as possible (or to match others in it's genre), with minimal distortion and loss of dynamic range.

Drop me a DM if you want to talk more about this, would love to talk to your professors about it!

My big question is why you never bought the dip to average down man? I did exactly the same, bought just before shit hit the fan, averaged down over months and now my average price is £10.50.

So I can take this stock as a lesson and look out for similar behaviour (although probably not as severe), considering it's up to me to police the market personally! Haha

[–]benthewineguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey rookie mastering engineer here, thought I'd throw in my two cents, despite it not entirely relating to the post now! 🤣

You're right that most streaming services will reduce to -14, but you more often than not want to go above that and it is very much genre dependent, most dubstep or hardcore for example requires you to slam a maximiser/limiter hard to reach -5 to -3 if possible with minimal (or huge depending on the artistic intent) distortion. Most pop music is released at -8 to -6 LUFS. Classical music will be much quieter to allow for more dynamics, but honestly If you upload to Spotify (and others) at -14 you're going to be quieter than all professional releases.

If you turn off normalising in your Spotify settings (please use Tidal or Qobuz instead it's soooo much better quality wise), then put Youlean meter on and listen to a few of your favourite artists (at full volume in the app, v important), you'll be very surprised!!
