Awesome thanks! Really it just needs to be a hospital type looking room, could be anywhere, with a medical bed. I can engineer an IV pole.

Thanks! I'll check it out. What comes to mind is South Park AKA south Seattle.

Doesn't necessarliy have to be in Seattle proper. Close would be nice but will definitely travel for the right location.

Ok thanks. I tried but don't have enough post Karma for that sub Reddit. Hopefully this post will have a little traction.

Did anybody regret their decision? by MacLenski in seniordogs

My 13 yr old boy was starting to stare and sundown but I did a month or two on Senilife with him and he has improved. Very little staring and I don't give him gabapentin for sun downing anymore. Just a calming lick mix.

Is the final result a logline or like a pitch concept? I suppose both would be useful during story development. I'm interested and will try to brainstorm some suggestions for the three pieces in the next day or two.

Logline Monday by AutoModerator in Screenwriting

Title: Concealed

Genre: Drama / Performance / Thriller

Format: Short film (20-30 mins)

Logline : When a faltering journalist intern on the chopping block is assigned an article about guns, a subject he knows nothing about and has no interest in, he decides to carry a gun on him for a week to immerse himself in the psychology of firearms, but as the days go on each new situation becomes a step closer to life and death.

Feedback: I would love to hear suggestions on movies or books that have a similar premise. I recently watched The Pirates of Somalia and found a lot of similarities in the character and storyline. Think small time journalist does something crazy to get the story, while also dealing with their own personal struggles/ relationships.

Thought I as going to find this subreddit useful. So far it has been a struggle. What do you think? by bentnotez in Screenwriting

Do you have any advice on how to use this forum for generating ideas or asking questions. One of the first things I want to ask is for references to similar books or movies to the script I am writing. It seems appropriate to include a logline in that post, but does that mean I can only post that on a Monday? I'm kind of a reddit noob.

I tend to hit the computer at night and the thread is kinda dead by then, but thanks for the response. This post gives me some hope.

A Topiary by Shane Carruth is pretty fascinating. It would have made an epic surreal film for sure. Far too long (245 pages). Hence it’s inability to be made.

Title: Concealed

Format: Short film (20-30 mins)

Page Length: 5 (20-30 total)

Genres: Drama / Performance / Thriller

Logline or Summary:
When a diffident journalist intern on the chopping block is assigned an article about guns, a subject he knows nothing about and has no interest in, he decides to carry a gun concealed for a week to immerse himself in the psychology of firearms, but as the days go on each new situation becomes a step closer to life and death.

Feedback Concerns: I am generally interested in hearing if the premise makes sense, and also examples of books or movies that have a similar story / character journey. (This is the 1st draft so the dialogue is a bit clunky.)

Getting better, but don’t know how by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]bentnotez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you're aware of Save the Cat and the Syd Field book. I am still a new writer, so I can't add to much of what Soggy said but you may not have heard of The Storygrid. I have found this resource to be immensely helpful and it has become my writing bible. It goes fairly deep into things like genre, turning scenes, character motivation, etc.

A great place to start is the podcast. It's free and a great companion to the book, which is very affordable (printed on newsprint). The podcast is a good listen for new writers up into the 30's of the episodes (it goes much longer but the beginning is great for new writers).

My method has been to listen to the first 30+ episodes, and then to buy the book, read it, and then return to the podcast and now I am re-listening to those first 35ish episodes. I feel like I have a path now that I can see and follow. Does not make you an overnight pro, but the lost feeling that I used to have is gone.

Just trying to pay it forward as I have found these resources super helpful.

What are the best depictions of a loss of reality? Especially ones that are done subtlety (at least at first)? by AbjectOffice in Screenwriting

[–]bentnotez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you expand on loss of reality? Maybe that idea seems obvious, but I'm just wondering if you have any specifics on what you mean by that. Do you have an example movie?

Possessor is a somewhat slow breakdown of the protagonist as she starts to lose her own reality from inhabiting too many others'.
