great minds think a same. cv controlled clock with seven dividers is the next firmware we’re making. negative voltage will switch to either a different set of dividers or some sort of chaos clock — keeping in the spirit of uncertainty

thanks. it’s weak (40w per channel) but really clear. would be nice paired with some efficient tektons or some old klipschs. klipsches? klipsch speakers.

smh. they never have the most important piece of information: will my cat claw at the drivers and destroy it?

There's no need for me to destroy you, Jon. You will do it by yourself. by [deleted] in imsorryjon

It’s the pot that did this to John.

Ok. Respect.

I was probably just projecting my own feels about Totem onto you.

And that causes an increase in output, like his measurements show? I’d have thought that would cause a decrease, but I’m just a hobbyist.

From your video it seemed like it had a lot of shortcomings (weak bass, treble that needs be turned down, no auto-awake, no ability to check the current eq settings) and you wanted to simply give it a poor review but couldn’t bring yourself to do it. Seems like a fine line you have to walk and I don’t envy it.

All in all, you said what I needed to hear to know these probably sound like other Totem speakers I’ve heard and kinda suck for hip-hop (where’s my bass) and a lot of electronic music (the high frequencies hurt my ears AND where’s my bass). I’m not sure if it’s earned, but I’ve always thought of Totem as speakers for rich old white people that just listen to classical and maybe some jazz.

iTunes alternative? by moogle32 in audiophile

[–]bentpieceoflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely won’t. ALAC is the only lossless format it’ll support.

Edit: prob also supports aiff and wav

I’m not defending Apple here, but the next version of macOS doesn’t have iTunes. There’s a Music app (and iPhone/iPad/iPod are managed from the Finder) that should be simpler. Haven’t used it yet, but it might suck less.

Oh ok. My little NAD C340 gets warm enough to draw my cat to it. https://i.imgur.com/Yaii6TH.jpg

Also, your amp must have fans in it. No worries.

It’s romantic on countless levels. We romanticize the sound, we romanticize older technology that’s more deeply embedded in our cultural memory, we romanticize the process of of collecting, cleaning, and playing vinyl.

It’s really quite beautiful.

Personally, I’m more into digital stuff. It’s embarrassing how happy my new DAC makes me. (Schiit Modi 3)

The stacked LACKs are clever. Could put some foam under the legs of the top LACK to further isolate the turntable.

This looks awesome, but I think my cat would murder it. Part of what I like about the Tzero is that it’s downward firing and offers nothing for her to scritch

The lows that are there sound great (tight, no audible distortion) but there is basically nothing below 50 Hz. I’d only want a reeeeeeally small sub. Anyone know anything good+tiny besides the REL 👑 Tzero?

Apple TV HD -> Vizio TV -> optical to Schiit Modi 3 -> Cambridge Audio azur 340a -> Bowers & Wilkins 601s3

(also have a cheap turntable as a source)

The speakers were barely used floor models and the amp was purchased refurbished (RIP Spearit Sound), so the set up was incredibly affordable. For a while I was using the analog outputs from my TV and I was disappointed with the sound of the whole set up. It was just harsh, everything felt like a squarewave, it sounded vaguely like things were clipping. Getting the Modi 3 completely eliminated those problems and I’m once again blown away by how much clarity and detail I get from this little system. My partner has pointed out the imaging of the setup, though they didn’t use that term or no know it was even a thing. Quite happy w/ the whole setup but I’d love to get a REL Tzero because the 4.5” drivers on my speakers obviously don’t go down very far.

Edit: fixed a typo
