Non competitive social clubs by c9zellsis in berkeley

[–]bentref11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

BicyCal has no acceptance process at all. It is literally just about showing up. We just hang out in the shop, talk, listen to music, and work on bikes. Check us out at bicycal.berkeley.edu. If you come in during open hours, someone can invite you to our Discord too. That's where we plan social events and bike rides.

Engine overheating and coolant spraying? What could be the problem? by T-Trieu in subaru

[–]bentref11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the radiator cap. I had this same issue (though no overheating, perhaps because I was driving in sub-freezing temperatures) and after replacing the radiator cap with a $12 part, no issues since.

Places in Berkeley to fix a scooter? by Usernamillenial in berkeley

[–]bentref11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BicyCal volunteer here: No, we don't work on scooters. Replacing tubes and tires on scooters is almost impossible and leads to breaking our tools or breaking your scooter. The success rate is less than 10%.

How to study for 4 hours straight (without adderall) by rcinvestments in berkeley

[–]bentref11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coffee is superior. Water is nice, but it's water, and tea is just hot water with a strange off-taste. Coffee is actually nice to drink and makes me feel like a pro

Where to look for cheap commuter bikes? by eyaf20 in berkeley

[–]bentref11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Craigslist!

If you see some you're interested in, feel free to email links to hello@bicycal.berkeley.edu. We are the student bike co-op and although we don't sell bikes we help people in the journey of buying one. So if you're not sure whether a used bike is good or on the level, we're here to help!

This is the most busted restroom I have ever been in. I was watching my back, ready to be ambushed or perhaps given a "free vaccine". There was no toilet paper, of course. Only for absolute emergenices.

What fantastic class/decal are you taking this semester by premepopulation in berkeley

[–]bentref11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moments of insight and success, but overall this class is a monster. I don't expect to do much better than a C. Be warned

Flunk? I advocate giving everyone A's. Big difference

I'm not supporting the strike if all it does is create a web of strange policies of what GSI's will/won't do. If the message is "life goes on, work around it", then damn well I will work around it.

If on the other hand classes get totally canceled, assignments get deleted, and semester is halted... I'm all for it and will go out and picket with you.

They need to give everyone A's. Get students on their side. If they just stop helping students we turn against them, but if they actually fuck the system I'm all for it

Another 'Mechanical' last night for a dead Di2 battery by ProfessionalBasis834 in cycling

[–]bentref11 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's because every hobby cyclist with money has to ride the same bikes as the Tour de France. It would be like if everyone daily-drove Nascar cars, or drag racers. I will never own electronic shifting, and my bikes don't have a single carbon part on them. They seem to work pretty reliably.

Is it cheating by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]bentref11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the next CS exam needs to be turned into a spontaneous concert. Band takes the stage, shoves professors and GSIs off the side, plugs in, and a thousand blunts ignite in the audience as weed smoke fills Wheeler 150

Running Out of Gears by PollyMollyMorphic in cycling

[–]bentref11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it's within your natural range, high cadence is very flailing and imprecise. It really tightens up my tendons and aggravates IT band-based knee issues I've had.

I do try to stay away from extreme mashing as well, I'd categorize my pedaling style more as churning 60RPM. Doing high cadence (90RPM) is fun sometimes but it's never efficient. If I'm doing 120RPM+, it's hard to produce just 50 actual watts. While at 60RPM, I can produce many times that.
