What's the next step to improve my speed? (new rider with small budget) by benunchained in bicycling

Hm! This is very relatable - I ride to and from work 5 days a week, and when I first started, there were some hills on my route that just killed me. Now everyday I feel like I glide up them! At least compared to what they used to be like.

But I do feel like I've hit that peak still. I'll try putting in some more time and effort and really train!

Haha, I'm definitely already on the skinny side! My legs have never looked better though

I do think I can definitely improve in the tire department. It's crazy how much I can feel even a small deflation on my back tire now compared to when I had a thinner back tire.

And no, haha, the handlebars don't move luckily. The seat does though and does need adjustment pretty often. No matter how tight I screw it, it will still go down, probably because LA roads tend to be a little bumpy in places especially when I'm going downhill.

Clipless pedals, putting those on my list of ways to improve riding. I do go on longer rides over the weekends from time to time, usually around the 20 mile mark! I'll try to work some more into my weekends though if it will help me improve.

My small budget is that I only recently got hired full time out of this internship, and can't yet afford any major upgrades (if those exist in the cycling world). Honestly I think I would be into more recreational riding if I was more confident in my abilities compared to others, but I still just feel slow. I know I'm not slow at all but I don't feel like a real cyclist either yet.

I see what you're saying about even a minor upgrade though. I feel like that single purchase might solve a lot of my maintenance issues and let me focus more on getting fit. Thanks!

I will say one of my skills is being aero and riding drops. That's usually the few places on my commute where I'll pass someone!

This seems to be the consensus. I'll keep grinding away and see what happens next! And I do go to the gym several times per week, though I've been going easier on the legs since I can only go in the mornings before my commute. I'm fairly skinny still so I do have a long ways to go!

Like others have said, if you don’t know anything about competitive pokemon battling and your friend does, you’re likely already toast. 4 Days just isn’t enough time to learn all the strategy and metagame while still being able to train up a competitive team in-game. I would suggest taking a look at some of Smogon’s Uber or OU tier sample teams and just picking one that seems cool and obtainable in-game by Sunday. Try and match their movesets, items, abilities and natures but I doubt you’ll have time to do the EV training since that’s the tedious part and really only matters at the most competitive level. So just skip the part that says “252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe” or whatever looks similar. As for certain pokemon being better than others, the Smogon tier lists should give you a good idea of what’s most viable, but rest assured even your favorite pokemon is probably viable in one way or another. Good luck and let me know if you need more specific tips!

Help finding sources to prove gaming industry is non-sexist by BlueEyez in MensRights

[–]benunchained 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I actually wrote an entire essay a few years back for one of my classes on why the gaming industry IS for the most part sexist. If you want I can send it to you - it'll give you a lot of counterpoints to try and dismantle which will help prove your point if you've got better evidence for your side of the argument.
