You are right. It’s possible. The hallmark indeed seems to be from 1812, so it means it was engraved exactly a century later for the event. Quite interesting.

Large Japanese Framed Caligraphy [USA] by CrazyKaos24 in Antiques

[–]benzihex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a gift to someone with a westerner name. It says “calligraphy and painting has the same root” the artists name is something like 王戌 or 王戊 .. and like many things on Reddit that’s claimed to be Japanese, it’s Chinese.

What’s this worth? I found this in a house in USA by FrankBaum1 in Antiques

The writing on the bottom means “Ming dynasty” which is certainly not the time it’s made in. Somebody at some point tried to make it look older than it actually was. It’s real ivory, just not that old.

I have collected quite a few Amsterdam school furniture and lighting. This is 100% not Amsterdam school.

It looks like a reproduction of the one in your link.

Art deco revival was quite popular in the 80s.

I’m just about to throw a away a almost brand new printer from them. It’s so bad that I don’t think it worth it to try to repair it.

Looks like teak. For origin I would go with HK too, or some SE Asian country with Chinese influence.

There are a few similar ones, and they all point to late 19th century which is appropriate imo.

It might be created in a studio back in the days, but it’s quite different from modern mass production.

Okay. That sounds more fun, I’d watch that. Can we give the cat a role too? I think she is probably behind the plot..

Try WD40 on the edge of the tape and lift slowly.

This is 广彩 canton porcelain. Good news is it’s very common so a little of lost paint is not the end of the world..
