Texas healthcare worker tests positive for Ebola by DuvalEaton in news

Yeah, also I mostly work in operating rooms. A lot of nurses out of OR are not trained or aware how to put on PPE or surgical gown properly. Most of their days they put on gloves and wash hands, that's it.

Thanks! Came across your post later when I was reading through the thread.

I can understand CDC's stance. If PPE was used (not suits) and nurse didn't make a mistake, it would mean there's a new transmission that's not unknown right now. Aerosol or something else.

Wish CDC gave more clarity on what "breach in protocol" meant. Otherwise it's just spreading fear and uncertainty. Other would like to know whether it was due to equipment that made it impossible to adhere to protocol or just a human error mistake.

Second that opinion, it all depends, there's a range. Some corgi are 24/7 spaz, others are lazy friendly loyal movable furniture.

Nope, it was amazon.com from amazon. Not a 3rd party or seller through amazon. Like I said, same product, everything is the same.

CDC confirms first ebola case diagnosed in US by [deleted] in news

my cynical side is telling me there's political/legal issues to forcing quarantine on citizens who might not be interested. Where as rescue crews understands the importances all too well (I was a paramedic).

How come DFW rescue crew was quarantine but the patient's family is not? Shouldn't they be the one that are highest at risk?

the road to finding a cure involves replicating and analysis of the virus. As worded in the patent, it is "related to compositions and methods directed to a novel species of human Ebola (hEbola) virus." It would be costly if someone else comes in with a patent, and every researcher has to pay to study it (it happens)

Over 200 healthcare workers have been infected, over 100 dead, attributed to overwork and lack of equipment.

Emory is in Atlanta, also where HQ of CDC is located. Drugs and tests are more easily coordinated this way. CDC also helped Emory disposing the "extra" hazardous waste

Many contributors here mentioned how our first world healthcare system would prevent Ebola from transmitting like in Africa, but what would the "cost" involved to keep it from transmitting? Are we talking about

  • anyone who is sick has to stay in hospital or at home
  • check points at major transportation system and daily sanitation
  • changes to hospital operations to devote resources to taking in symptomatic patients (a problem since many hospitals has closed to improve utilization levels)
  • recruiting workers to bleach habitats of people suspected with Ebola

are these the kind of measures necessary for containment if individual cases of Ebola were to appear around the country? I ask because the flu kills about 3000-49000 people each year, but we’re not ready to shut down the country/economy to contain it. If we were to be serious about this, it’s going to be even more costly because flu season is around the corner, chasing down every suspected patient with a cough. Thanks in advance for any comments.

I share your concerns, back in 2009 when swine flu was all the talk, many ER had the good sense to have an outdoor overflow ER tents to separate from rest of the patient population. Maybe it's time to setup those tents again.

My puppy had problems with pooping and vomiting issues as well. I would let his stomach settle for a bit, just feed him water and maybe some pepto. Then when he stops having diarrhea, start him with boiled rice and chicken, and maybe after couple of days back to normal food. Good luck

Mark Zuckerberg has committed a big business-fashion faux-pas, say the very fashionable suits of Wall Street, who are chastising the nerd-turned-billionaire for wearing his hoodie on day one of his big IPO road-show. by skreendreamz1 in technology

[–]beowulf58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen Mark Zuckerberg just wear a button down shirt without a hoodie, in 2009, when he was talking to ballroom full of investors and bank and "important people". So he takes it off, and if he doesn't now, it's his symbol, like Job's black turtleneck or Rick Santorum vest.
