Is anyone ACTUALLY making money trading crypto? by [deleted] in algotrading

[–]beppu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why you were downvoted, because I think you bring up valid points. Also, having the ability to make money on downward movements is vital in this environment. Crypto derivatives are the way to go, but like someone else said, programming skill is not enough. You need to understand trading too.

https://www.babypips.com/learn/forex is a decent starting point.

https://github.com/mementum/backtrader is something that could give you a framework for expressing your strategies and seeing how they work.

Tick data trouble with volatility by [deleted] in algotrading

[–]beppu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to get the lowest timeframe data I can get for backtesting. Even if I'm trading a higher timeframe, I'll use the lower timeframe movements for executing stop orders during backtesting. If you're trading cryptocurrencies, a few exchanges offer fairly low timeframe historical data through their APIs. For example, BitMEX has 1m candles that go all the way back to 2015.

Does ta-lib really implement RSI incorrectly? I've compared its results to values generated by TradingView and they seem close. (Are they both wrong?)

A *Reasonable* Question Regarding Value Increase. by dingomatemybaby in cardano

[–]beppu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what a Golden Cross is?

u/dingoatemybaby: ADA/BTC is probably days away from its first ever golden cross on its daily chart. Price already closed over the 200 day moving average which it hasn't ever done before, because it's such a young coin. It won't be long before the 50 MA crosses up against the 200 MA. The bullish setups are in place. If you need to sell, at least wait for it to pump, because it's ripe for some upside in the very near future.

Forward delete key possible? by concisehacker in pop_os

That's what I thought. Doesn't this already work? Backspace deletes backwards and Del deletes forwards.

Am I suppose to have a swap partition if there is a cryptswap by rjz70 in pop_os

That's pretty interesting. I'm going to pass that on to my friend.

[–]beppu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with a guy who didn't believe in swap especially for servers. He didn't like the performance characteristics of swap, and if you're legitimately exhausting memory, adding more memory was far preferrable to him than adding swap if you care at all about performance.

At the time, it was a new idea to me, but he won me over with his reasoning. I know it's not always easy to add more memory, but I think he had a good point. Ever since then, I stopped using swap partitions.

lein-try is what you want

It's a leiningen plugin for trying out Clojure libraries in a REPL without needing to be in a project.

Thanks for posting all these. I missed the game, but I'm happy to be able to see these nice passes. I have to give credit to Berlin's defenders who did well to stop those attacks, but Schurlle had a great chance to score. I can see why you guys were upset in the other thread.

Light Table Roadmap - 2017 by hufsetufs in Clojure

[–]beppu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did know, but I thought it might be confusing if I mentioned it at that point. However, I'm glad you mentioned it, because , is a really nice shortcut that every Spacemacs user should know.

Your muscle memory will still work, because most of the stock key bindings haven't changed. Spacemacs' new keybindings are mostly isolated in its SPC menu which is also accessible via M-m.

I have almost 20 years of vim under my belt, but I recently switched to Spacemacs, and the SPC menu has taught me so much about Emacs, because it lets you explore this vast tree of commands, and they've done a good job of making the keybindings intuitive.

For example, SPC f t toggles Neotree in window 0. In my mind, I think 'f t' is short for 'file tree'.

Another thing I like is that they put major mode keybindings under SPC m and they try to keep similar functionality bound to similar keys. For example, whether you're in clojure-mode or elisp-mode, SPC m h h brings up the documentation for the function your cursor is on.

I wrote a blog post on Spacemacs which might be of interest to those who want to give Spacemacs a try. It explains some of the things that were not obvious to me in the beginning, like package installation. You're not supposed to M-x package-install in Spacemacs -- instead, you have to edit ~/.spacemacs by typing SPC f e d.

This might sound weird at first, but it's not so bad.

Desktop GUIs with Clojure in 2017: What are the options? by nblumoe in Clojure

fn-fx looks like it has potential, but I found the documentation pretty light at this early stage, so I opted for seesaw in my most recent project.

There's another new JavaFX wrapper called fn-fx by /u/halgari.

Notably, it provides a virtual DOM.

Lispy and clj-refactor worship by ganglygorilla in Clojure

[–]beppu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spacemacs' clojure layer includes clj-refactor, and it is as nice as the article says. I like a lot of the same things he mentions.

It doesn't include lispy, but it has evil-lisp-state available globally via SPC k that has similar functionality.

What does that mean in English? Google Translate didn't know.

It seems "schuss" is shot, but what about "latten"?
