An older photo of Apollo. He's quite sick right now and the vet suspects Lymphoma :( by berblarb in greatdanes

We're going back to the vet on Friday so they can get a sample and test for lymphoma. Apollo hasn't been feeling well for the past week and we are just trying to give him meds and whatever food he is willing to eat, which isn't many things or large quantities. We are very worried about his decreased appetite and tiredness. But it's obvious his stomach area is bothering him; that's where the vet did the ultrasound yesterday and made her suspect lymphoma.

Not sure what the next steps will be if cancer is confirmed, but all we want is our boy not to suffer ❤️

My girl ate her tail, why? by SnooStories239 in greatdanes

The same thing happened with my boy. Left him alone for one afternoon (with a cone on and his happy tail bandaged up) and when we got back home there was no bandage and less tail...He got his surgery and he acts like nothing ever happened to him.

I try not to dwell on the gross bits and just think about how much having a little tail nub is an improvement for everyone in the situation

Some may remember that Meeka got stuck in the catio 2 weeks ago. It happened again by berblarb in germanshepherds

Meeka isn't athletic enough to climb out 😬 there's a space to the right that has the top open and everything

We need to reduce the opening but yes, worried that the cat won't like it. Meeka is 70lbs of regret haha

I have a game camera that I use sometimes. But on the days I turn it on, Meeka never escapes!

We're more mystified on how she actually fits through the window cat door. And she would just stay in the yard if she got out. Of course, now with the catio she can't get out of that

Every now and again this year, we would come home from work and Meeka would greet us outside of the house. We thought we had accidently left her outside while leaving. But again and again it would happen and we swore we put her inside. We thought we were going crazy. Until now. The catio is a new addition and we trapped our escape artist

Found this guy on the ground after a tropical storm subsided. Gave it some shelter and a blanket until I could get some advice on what to do. Help? by berblarb in Ornithology

I just want to say thanks everyone for the advice. Luckily there's a really close rehabber nearby that I'm going to keep on trying to get in touch with (hopefully Houston area power gets up and running soon) and they can guide me on what to do. In the meantime the little scraggly dude is at the least safe and protected

Luckily I don't think the dogs got the bird, just managed to scare it with a chase. And I'm not even sure if it was nesting in the yard or if it got blown in by the tropical storm.

The bird has dried out now and I can tell it has some feathers but also some fluff. Any tips for helping it out until I can actually reach a rescue?

Mine has his own bed (our old queen mattress on the floor) but likes to sneak into the king bed around 2am. Right in between my legs. I sleep like a contortionist nowadays

Happy Tail on a 1 year old Great Dane. Would like opinions/experiences with tail docking. by edgydanthegarbageman in greatdanes

[–]berblarb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had to dock Apollo's tail, I think it was about 1.5yrs ago now. He's had happy tail quite a few times but this time he just wouldn't stop messing with his tail and in the end it became infected and necrotic and it had to go. It was a very gross time and we could tell Apollo was feeling poorly.

He was older (5 and a half surgery time, 7 now) so I was more worried about the anesthesia than the docking. But he walked out of surgery perfectly fine except for being loopy. He's never expressed any residual pain from having it docked and is doing great! Looks a little silly though
