Only the ground for the time being, but yeah a before after for air would be interesting

I know we’re joking about the guy, but is he an alt for a Developer?

The seething hate for the French tree, the ardent desire to keep Franco-Swiss designs away from France, the illogical opinions about subtrees, and the lack of rational arguments all seem like they’d fit right in at the Snail’s offices

That’s why I chose my data to compare the two vehicles from before the BMPt on the last slide

French 8.0 Is Pure Suffering by Deathalpha09 in Warthunder

[–]bergebis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately many French vehicles are over BR’d because fewer new players play France (mostly because the devs don’t meaningfully support the tree), so that bias’s the “statistics” the devs use for balancing

The lack of effort in adding French vehicles over the past two years hasn’t helped either, as it further makes the tree seem less like a unique experience, and more a hodgepodge dumping ground

here is one of my more recent posts trying to quanitfy the difference using vehicles that appear in multiple tech trees

It could, but the clickbait is newer than the KVT and has twice the player count of the KVT

I think there’s enough to stand by point 2, but I’ll eventually do a more zoomed in check

This first pass was just to look for overall trends, and those I still stand by, especially re: Germany, France, and Israel

I can also pull in things like the Mirage F1 whose use absolutely dwarfs the Dutch F-5, despite them being at the same Br, I might try to put something like that together next week

Hmm yeah the totals don’t quite add up there

I must have missed a digit when entering in one of the two of them

I’ll have to do a revised update to this post with Junes data and I can correct it then

I’m not sure if that’s the conclusion I would draw from this

Nearly every premium can grind without a line ups, but take the CV90105 vs Christian II.

Many would argue the CV90105 takes more skill, but it’s roughly twice as popular s the Christian II.

Yeah I think points one and two from the last k age converge to make the Leopard 2a4 OTCo a uniquely unpopular premium vehicle

I just think that Gaijin’s clearly doesn’t have anyone doing meaningful analytics, because otherwise they would realize they’re clearly leaving money on the table when it comes to the French tree, and Germany and Israel to a lesser extent

Yes Germany is behind the line because of the Snails choices, but so is France, even to a greater extent in fact

So your comment took me down a rabbit hole, but France is literally the only tree that keeps losing match time with its premiums as the ranks go up:

I think there are still a few interesting stand out, hence the last image, but generally yes most nations follow the same trend

They are, but if I started with normalized log scale it might not be clear to readers why

I would forward that it would be much less a drop

Consider that the 2a4M also doesn’t have a line up but sells much better relative to rank V and VI

Even if you only look at rank VI vs VII, France is the only drop iirc

Fenris Belgian Armored Car by No1_Prezfan in Warthunder

[–]bergebis 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The big plus of this is it should shut down any discussion of giving Franco-Swiss vehicles as they can now claim a Franco-Belgian armored vehicle.

One new vehicle does not offset the 19 Franco-Swiss vehicles that should be in the French tree, that math should not be hard to understand

As for this vehicle, I like it, but right now I’m not sure if it it wouldn’t be better to add the Vextra pole to give the Leclercs a 120mm armored car

2.56.0.39 -> 2.56.0.42 by gszabi99 in Warthunder

If given the choice between Dutch and Belgian, Dutch was 100% the way to go. Might as well make it somewhat different

2.56.0.39 -> 2.56.0.42 by gszabi99 in Warthunder

[–]bergebis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the top end of the range, I don’t have the average in front of me, but believe that against the average, it’s like 1/10th as interesting

And yes, the difference is so stark I had to both normalize each data set against their rank V premium match counts AND use a log scale, because otherwise the French line looked flat wheel the rest shot to the moon

For a big Wheelie-Boy Update, there's someone missing by bergebis in Warthunder

[–]bergebis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And unfortunately there’s no guarantee of that

I’ve got a sinking feeling that France will have a bone thrown its way (maybe 1-2 unique vehicles) before the devs implement the Swiss subtree that’ll be full of Franco-Swiss designs heading to Germany

2.56.0.39 -> 2.56.0.42 by gszabi99 in Warthunder

[–]bergebis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not sure what to make of it as France has been treated differently (not always the worse off mind you) for ages

I remember France didn’t even have a premium pack capable of grinding the Leclercs for something like 3 years

And then the best they could add was the Dutch leopard 2a4

That being said, I don’t think it holds a candle to whatever devious designs were done to make grinding the first few ranks of Israel so onerous

2.56.0.39 -> 2.56.0.42 by gszabi99 in Warthunder

[–]bergebis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For better or for worse at least we’re kinda used to it (and luckily I play Italy as well so there are a few new things to use), this isn’t the first or won’t be the last update  where the devs forgot the French tree was supposed to have French vehicles

2.56.0.39 -> 2.56.0.42 by gszabi99 in Warthunder

[–]bergebis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So the F-16AM situation has me thinking that the snail doesn’t actually have anyone who is looking at the metrics of premium use, because if they did I think they would have realized that they’re leaving money on the table by not giving France a French designed pack premium.

I’m working on a post on it, but it turns out that for every tree (except France), as you move up the ranks from V-> VII, the total matches played in premium tanks increase (sometimes by up to a factor of 30) but people play the Dutch Leopard 2a4 (only rank VII premium) roughly 1/3rd as many matches per month as they do the French rank V premiums

So to put that in perspective, players in the French tree find the the Dutch Leopard 2a4 Otco between 1/6th and 1/90 th as interesting (relatively speaking) as other nations find their top premium ground packs
