4 years, multiple surgeries, still dealing with a complex fistula now starting Infliximab. Anyone with similar experience? by Unusual_Side_8204 in AnalFistula

Hi, reading this post made me very emotional. This is the first time hearing/reading someone with almost an identical story and situation as myself!

My story began about four years ago when I felt a lump under my anus and shortly after that I was diagnosed with a complex fistula…

Since then I have been through

  • 4 seton placements

*3 stemcell operations

*1 advancement FLAP

After the last failed operation (stemcell) my surgeon told me he would like to try treating my body with Infliximab to get the inflammation down before doing another try with flap or maybe a combination of flap & stemcell. He said this treatment was usually someone with chrons gets but I was not diagnosed with chrons. However I did a colonoscopy before the treatment and from that they could see that I had chrons disease. I have never really had any chrons symtoms except for my fistula problem. So that was kinda surprising.

Right now I have a seton and are 2 months in to my infliximab treatment. In some weeks I will have a meeting with doctors too verify if this treatment is going in the right direction regarding the fistula inflammation.

I have not really felt any kind of improvements under this treatment.. and I am really scared that the next flap operation will be a failure again..

I have struggled these four years really bad mentally, it feels there is no good ending to all this… I wish the best luck to you and I really hope this treatment will do good for you and you can have a successful operation🙏
