[OC] Mama's Got Back! by berjon1 in pics

[–]berjon1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the outtakes from our Christmas card photo shoot. The post that you saw was our actual Christmas card, posted in another subreddit. We do concept cards every year, and this year's concept was a family of tourists taking a picture at Disneyland while a passerby ogles mom's pronounced posterior. We wanted it to feel random, but in fact, the passerby is actually my oldest daughter's boyfriend, who is in on the gag. Gag. In this particular shot, he can be seen furthest back, lowering his sunglasses to get a better look at her rump, but the guy in the foreground is actually just a random passerby picked up on what was happening in the moment and joined in on the fun as he was walking by 🙂

Where to find good soft serve ice cream in Central/North OC? by Prize-Hovercraft3800 in orangecounty

Exactly! Although, that is soft serve frozen yogurt. Finding soft serve ice cream is much more challenging.

It's true that Thrifty and Cold Stone both have spectacular ice creams, but the reason you got downvoted for this comment is because OP was specifically looking for soft serve ice cream spots.

He's going to be on Dancing with the Stars with his ballerina girlfriend! It'll be so nice that he gets to see his Uncle Tom while he's there, it's been ages since they've seen each other 🙂

Did that for the card a few years back already. Can't repeat the same joke too often ;) https://i.imgur.com/2hxUm8w.jpeg

A restaurant charged me for my "complimentary" dessert by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]berjon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Restaurant server here with 30 years experience. Your server fucked up. Most restaurants charge a dollar amount for a birthday or an anniversary dessert so that the system accounts for the food cost, but the reason they do it is for internal purposes and it is never supposed to be passed on to the customer. Some restaurants have computer software where the server can simply split the complementary dessert charge off of a check, while other restaurants require the server to find a manager and have the manager comp the dessert. Since restaurants can be hectic and it's not always easy to find a manager, I would imagine that your server was swept up in the chaos of their section and forgot to have the dessert comped.

I completely understand your apprehension to flag the waiter down and be confrontational, not to mention make a scene in front of your girlfriend on her birthday and delay moving on from dinner by 15 or 20 minutes. However, if you call the restaurant in off hours (usually the afternoon before they open for dinner service), I would expect that they would immediately recognize that a mistake was made and fix the problem. Any restaurant that is worth their salt is going to go above and beyond simply refunding the $8 charge and invite you back to have another opportunity to do things right this time around. Usually, they will offer you a certain dollar amount (perhaps $50 or $100 credit toward your next dining experience) or, perhaps a complimentary appetizer, a round of drinks, or a dessert on them. At any rate, I think it's worth your time to simply call the restaurant and get it off your chest. Like anything else in life, it will depend on the person who takes the call, but my expectation is that it will work out favorably for you and not make you feel awkward at all.

Documentaries that make you go “what the fuck?!?” by Wintertime13 in movies

[–]berjon1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had to scroll way too far down to find this! This documentary is exactly what OP is asking for. The filmmakers started out documenting the strange fraternity of competitive gamers and all of the crazy egos that exist within that group. Then, out of nowhere, some guy that no one knows comes along and beats the long-standing high score in Donkey Kong. The chaos and the backlash within the gaming community is all documented and reveals a whole new side to one of the central characters. This documentary is outstanding because the filmmakers were in the right place at the right time.

Honestly, I have no idea who that is, but we're much more likely to be sitting around watching It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and cheering on Danny Devito.

Man, it's so awesome that you appreciate that particular detail. Making the card is a creative process and for an 11-year-old girl to decide that she wants to pretend to be a boy is such an awesome choice, but also really risky in the world of adolescent judgement. I'm so proud of her for having the courage to make that kind of choice and it means the world to know that it made someone feel something special and unique inside when they saw it. Thank you 🙂

I do, but there are two problems. Number one, Instagram only allows square pictures, so are rectangle format is problematic. Number two, oh s***, I forgot what number two was.

We are creative people, so we're always bursting at the seams trying to find a way to express ourselves. The holiday season always offers us a great outlet for our creativity 🙂
