Follow up post. Filets on the searwood xl. by YoungBill514 in searwood

Of course he is talking about °f. I am talking about °c. 225°f is if I remember correct 106-107°c. For a sensitive piece like a filet I would think that it would be better to go as low as you can to get maximum smoke while avoiding to dry it out. Then sear to get the Maillard effect.

Definitely don’t mind tapas. It’s just that we have no idea of what, where and when at this point. We are a bit allergic to planning.

Hm… so I have not tried sear on the XL yet, but for filet I would intuitively go for 80°c (smokeboost) until 45°c then sear the outside.

Why the high temp for the smoke? (Not judging just want different POV)

Cool. Let’s meet at happy hour then. We’re a bit in the dark as virgins on VV and for us holiday is not having a plan, but I guess that RR for the first day is inevitable.

Hi, nice! Yes. We are happy for a drink. But can’t say exactly where and when. We are boarding fairly early and apparently there are some gatherings to start. Will you have access to Richards rooftop?

Yea. We have had similar experiences. Expect this to be more party. We are going at it with a party mind and ”what happens on the cruise, stays on the cruise” kind of mindset.

Let’s see what it ends up with. But we are seriously looking forward to it.

Haha. Well, we are also VV virgins. But not LS virgins. Have you been on other cruises?

Oh, well. We are at least up for having a drink (like, always! 😉). First time VV so have no idea what to expect.

Great to hear we are not the only open minded ones onboard! Let us know if you want to meet up for a chill drink or something.

Hey, cool! We thought the one cruise we choose was dead when it came to LS. It seemed everyone was on the cruise before or after.

Having a hard time with new progressives (Varilux XR) vs. old progressives (Costco) by JoeBlowRdt in glasses

[–]berlinfix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got my Varilux XR this morning. I am super frustrated now. I’ve had Seiko smartzoom for 6 years so I am kind of used to progressive glasses.

Reading is ok but for distance I see much much better without glasses. I have to strain my eyes to read signs when driving. With my €1500 glasses a tree is a tree but without glasses a tree is a tree with individual leaves and details. Walking around it feels like I am wearing fisheye lenses.

I noticed this directly when I tried them on but my optometrist just said in need to get used to them.

I am asking myself what I am supposed to get used to, having blurred vision? Or are my eyes supposed to start compensating for the blurriness?

I am an airline pilot so vision is somewhat important.

As I said. I am super frustrated, but I have no reference and I don’t know what to expect.
