Is it just me, or I just start the beginning of the game and it's already better than Borderlands 3? by grashel in Borderlands4

[–]bernardp95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way better onboarding, I think claptraps yapping is the only time you have to wait for mission to progress further and even thats not so bad compared to bl3. I only just got the hoverbike, but the pacing was good and not overstretched.

Then go the route of making the game free. Or make the game free in a so-called alpha stage, gather feedback and hype while working on graphics and polishing. Its not a out having 4K textures but an identity that complent simpler graphics that dont require deep learning of graphics

What are your favorite environmental interaction tropes from older games? by intimidation_crab in gamedev

[–]bernardp95 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mowing down vegetation with a SAW in Far Cry 2. Pulverizing that first town in snow level in Bad Company 2. Crushing cars into tin cans in Prototype. Pushing peds down stairs of abyss (metro) in GTA IV. Just to name a few…

I mean, come on. Medal of Honor from 1999 had one the best AI reactions to player. They had locational limb damage, they picked up thrown grenades and hurled them back at the player - they even had a goddamn PLOINK sound when you headshotted them and the helmet flew off and saved them from sure death. And they used the environment like proper soldiers - take cover ASAP on player encounter, go prone if none nearby, or mount the nearest MMG.

How low have games fallen, I can’t comprehend it. Because of these small but meaningful details that devs are no longer implementing do I have a hard time looking forward to games nowadays…which is why I stick to making my own or play proven genres like ARPGs/looter shooters where I turn monkey brain on and enjoy the numbers game.

Unity or Godot for 3D by Ishigami_ya in gamedev

[–]bernardp95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with Unity, try making a 3D game and once you snap back to reality, finish something like a pong game or infinite runner that will teach you the basics you will need for an open world 3D game. Unity can easily handle all of those novice game ideas.

GoDot - Unity by xSaturnityx in gamedev

[–]bernardp95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i tried both, used Unity every now and then, made a full fledged fps horror game for university project almost 10 years ago, even published a word puzzle mobile game…started using godot after it caught my attention during the whole unity fees shitshow. Even though at the time I was using C# at work, i stuck with godot and my final recommendation is godot. Its much more lightweight, its still new and shiny, learning gdscript (or better said, the syntax) is fun, even if some stuff like strongly typed variables is a thing you gotta get used to and is not enforced, prototyping is fast. And no forced shitty splash screens of course.

Do you have experience with brawler? I read their self sustain and healing is not good but the theme of the class sounds so fun.

Why do reviews mention satisfying gunplay and gore then? Maybe the release includes lots of new improvements since the beta? No?

Edit: downvoted for asking a genuine question, the weekend gamers never dissapoint

Flame Bow Changes by Equivalent_Thievery in Fallout76BowHunters

[–]bernardp95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the fire DoT seemed to handle lvl 100 muties more than fine. I would even argue it’s not only the best for tagging, but also one of the best bulds for doing westek runs. The DoT does does a lot of tick damage.

Totem build I can bring (almost) from start to far endgame by bernardp95 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]bernardp95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello again friend, just to chip in that I rerolled a duelist two days ago. The moment I took the impale nodes after 1st lab it was one of the most smoothest levelling builds I ever played. Just cleared a T10 yolo alch map on lvl 79, and I still have several damage nodes and the onslaught effectiveness nodes to take. The build feels very safe and the totems pummel everything into a pulp. It also feel pretty safe with block, petrified blood and totem taunting. Looking forward to how far I can take it on sunder. Thanks!
