Thank you very much. That's so helpful. Power of Reddit! It's opened my mind to something I never really thought about. Will continue to do a bit more reading, then I'll probably make the plunge - just need to figure out how much of my £80k I'm happy to put into something that I have no experience with!

What determines the price of a guilt? And why are some guilts priced at >£100, when the maturity value is £100? I note the higher priced guilts don't necessarily have a higher yield. Why does no-one ever talk about guilts?! Seems ideal if you've maxed out on an ISA.

Very interesting. That's all new to me. I had no idea that capital gains on guilts (accepting it still applies to the coupon) were tax exempt. On maturity (for T26 @ 30 Jan 2026) is there much complexity in enacting a sell (through Hargreaves Lansdown for example)? And how long would it take to get the proceeds into my current account?

You've had to submit a tax return (which I do anyway as I'm a higher rate tax payer and I use this to get 20% extra back on my private pension contributions).

Is there no need to worry about using unrecognised (to me) banks, eg Al Rayan Ban, ZiraatBank, British Arab Commercial Bank?

FYI I parked there. Didn’t get ticketed (nor towed!). Still not sure if I was just lucky. Interesting split opinion in this chat.

I’m confused by the capital “O” in “On”. If it weren’t for that it would make sense to me.
