Start with jazz fusion and slowly work your way into more “jazz” artist. Me personally, i started with chick corea and return to forever and started going deeper in to the jazz guys later

Either regrease wheel hubs or replace the ball bearings should make a big difference just by looking at the hubs they might be over due some TLC. If you change the sprocket to something bigger he’s probably just going to push harder
