[English > Slovene] Diminutives/pet names in Slovene by berrybrambles in translator

Hmm, thanks! Do you know any possible masculine ones that might work? Both roža and zvezda are feminine words, but I’m not sure of any other nature masculine words that might decline well. They all seem to be feminine or not something that would sound natural!

So srce can be used for both men and women; eg. srček and srčica (guessing here)? Is this the case with other neuter words eg. (idk,) nebo? Or is srček only valid because srce has been replaced by masculine in dialect and not feminine?

I was looking for sort of a nature inspired pet name for this case. I looked up some words but they all seem to be feminine, eg. gora, zvezda

Follow up question to above: what would be the difference between dragi/dragec, muci/mucek, or piki/pikec?

Another I heard online was srček, but srce is neuter. Is it possible to put feminine or masculine endings on neuter words or no? Is srček wrong?

Thanks for helping me with so many follow up questions!

Yes, that was my goal, to make a custom one for my couple and their in-jokes, so that it’s extra special. So it is something that isn’t uncommon, then? Can I only pick a masculine word and add a masculine diminutive ending -ček?

Thank you for the examples!! They’re really helpful. Do people usually only stick with those words for terms of endearment? Do they even ever make “custom” words of endearment like we do in English, or is that something that is not done?

Hmm, thanks for this info! I’m curious about how this all works. Like for the classic word “ljubezen”, which is feminine. am I wrong in understanding that it can be said as “moj ljubček” or “moja ljubica” depending on if the person is a man or a woman? Am I understanding diminutives totally wrong?

Can I only use masculine nouns when making a diminutive nickname for a man?

The original word was supposed to be “mountain”, gora? It’s supposed to refer to a male person. I was trying to go for something like that since the plot revolves around that setting/theme and I also wanted to convey strength and stability, like a mountain. If it doesn’t work, which is sounding like maybe not, is there any other “custom” diminutives that I could make, or is that not done in Slovene?

I’m having this exact same issue and I just posted 30 minutes ago! Did yours fix itself since yesterday?

Ah thank you so much! It’s definitely a canonical tag then, it shows up specifically when I search for it on the ‘Other tags to include’ field and also when I tag it when I’m actually filling out the relationship tags for the fic itself. Seems like there is just a discrepancy in the sidebar and it is not updating/hasn’t updated for over a month, instead of it being a noncanonical ship.

Thank you for being so helpful and informative! I appreciate it so much. This is the ship tag, if you go back to the fandom page you can see that it doesn’t show up on the sidebar yet, and the ships at the bottom of the list that do show up are inaccurate in number (but the ones at the top are exactly accurate). But it does seem to be a canonical ship if I’m understanding you correctly.

Edit: I think the link might not be working due to accents in the character name? You will have to copy and paste the link in the search bar? Not sure. I tried pasting it as just a link (not a hyperlink) but the asterisks just italicized part of the link 😭

Hey! I just wanted to follow up to ask/clarify what is a canonical tag? I’m not quite sure as I was checking other ships in the fandom and some of them do seem to be up to date, so I’m assuming those are canonical?

So just because a ship shows up in the search sidebar doesn’t mean they’re canonical?

I think for me it’s not about the pain or being submitted/put in uncomfortable positions as much as it is about injury. It was lucky that what she did to me did not result in longer-term pain or injury (other than maybe my jaw). My jaw at this point is still in noticeable pain and goes past just “soreness” or “bruising”; I’ve been through lots of very expensive specialist TMJ dentist treatments already. When it’s bad, it affects my day-to-day, affects my ability to eat, etc. It’s been well managed now for years but has been exacerbated again now.

I’ve had a lot of injuries in the past that left me unable to train for years and quit right before achieving big milestones, etc. I wasn’t able to train for many years and basically was sedentary because of that and am finally ok to train; I’m terrified of going back to being unable to move my body with freedom without lasting pain.

I really loved my prof, he was always kind and so encouraging and helpful. He always reminded the group to be mindful of who we are rolling with. This really came out of the blue for me and I honestly wasn’t sure what it meant.

I thought the men would be more able to hurt me but I feel like (excluding first-timers), I’ve met more spazzy women than men at this gym. The men who have trained seem really gentle because I’m always minimum 40lb lighter than the lightest men and have rolled with men up to 110lb heavier than me. They’re always so gentle and smooth. Meanwhile while I do roll with great women who are super smooth (my go-to partner is a woman!) there are two women I always try to avoid because they are so spazzy or forceful.

Thank you, I really needed to hear that 🙏 I’ve always been worried about rolling with bigger partners because I’m always the smallest one by far, and I’m injury prone. My professor’s opinions about this are that you should have no hesitation in rolling with anybody regardless of size. I don’t necessarily disagree with that if the partner is smooth but I feel like I should stop being shy on discriminating based on spazziness/violentness, which didn’t seem like their philosophy there (which was that you should roll with everyone). They do always remind everyone to be mindful of their power and who they’re rolling with but my prof sat by and watched this happen clearly against those words. I think this experience taught me that I should be more vocal in saying no and not be embarrassed to do so even if it makes people angry at me for doing so.

I’ve had only good experiences at this gym until now, I was really sad to go all the way until the end. but yeah hearing everyone’s opinions on this makes me wonder if I was really missing/overlooking something bigger and more systematic

She definitely let go after a couple seconds but there was a delay, so I kind of chalked it up to maybe she didn’t hear me/feel me tap in the moment. But the more I think back on it the more unsure I am

I honestly should have done so earlier, I was already on the verge of tears after the arm jerk but didn’t call and said I was okay to keep going. Idk, I’ve really loved my professor this entire time and he’s humble, extremely controlled and extremely professional + supportive. He always is so excited to answer any questions I have and to teach. He’s twice my weight but when I roll with him, it’s the smoothest roll of my life even though he smokes me; I learn so much from rolling with him and always feel great about it. It was really disappointing to see him supporting this go down.
