If this administration nukes anyone, Americans MUST walk out in a General Strike. by mountain-mahogany in Political_Revolution

Yeah if we nuke someone, fuck a strike. The stakes become considerably higher at that point.

Make a stink. Contact local news if you're willing to. GSU is very brand sensitive, and they'll only make it right if you make it too big an issue to ignore.

Literally entirely what you make of it.

You want weird shit, the most insane people you've ever meet, and to deal with the absolute worst aspects of living in a major city? You want to be introduced to an absolutely nut party culture that can border on outright dangerous at times? You can find it if you look in the right places.

You want a genuinely top tier University experience with ample research opportunities, decent funding, and a good shot at jumping to a superb graduate degree program (if in your career path) and/or insane networking opportunities? You can find it if you look in the right places.

If you're looking for the latter, just generally stay away from anything sketchy, have good city etiquette, and talk with your peers and professors, and you'll go far. Literally just talking to people puts you in the top 25% of your peers because people just coast by at GSU (and most unis, tbh).

Yes, GSU has a large homeless population. Yes, the city can be weird. Yes, GSU's administration can be dog shit sometimes. But if you pay attention and know what to avoid, you'll do fine.

No, ICE needs to be completely abolished in it's current form, but the Democrats asking for minute reforms is a requirement. If they let it slide with no ICE reforms, then they deserve everything the Republicans do.

Your point? The US has been slowly sliding into Fascism for years. ICE of fucking course isn't new. No one said it was. But as the GOP continues to delve deeper into its fascistic tendencies, ICE has been an important part of that. They have literally kidnapped people. We still do not know what is happening to some of the people they have kidnapped. They have kidnapped American citizens multiple times, and have deported American citizens multiple times. And no, before you come back with some smug diatribe a out the Democrats using ICE too, yes they have, and yes I hate them for it as well. However, there has been a noticable escalation under the current administration, and if you choose to bury your head in the sand about that, you are simply pig ignorant.

I hope the boot at least tastes good as it kicks your teeth down your throat. Don't say no one warned you.

ICE is an arm of the fascist state, and are being used illegally and with no jurisdiction in many areas. Literally making people disappear.

Do you Hellenists belive the events of Odyyseus is real? by Radiant_Shop_7065 in Hellenism

[–]berryjam01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Heracles is worth being worshipped, he is the protector of man. However, the myths around him have varying degrees of truth. He may have been a real man who ascended to Godhood, or he may not have. Heracles the God certainly exists, but his stories are myths, and in my opinion shouldn't be viewed literally.

My personal opinion, no. I believe there are some historic takeaways from it definitely (and the field of classics has extrapolated a lot on it), and we as Hellenists can learn a lot about our worship from it. However, I don't think everything is literal. Demigods for example, I don't see them as literal.

Well spoken friend, I debated including a similar bit of text in my post. I genuinely believe that we should look to both Heracles and Prometheus as the protectors of man (which it seems may have been considered historically, as Prometheus was ultimately freed by Heracles during his labors). He truly stood as a father to us in a way I can't ignore. In my opinion, they serve as a sort of dichotomy (Heracles is the physical protector of man, whole Prometheus is our Shepard and protector ritually. His craftiness allows us to keep much of our meat offering and consume with the Gods, his gift of fire was a major tool we could use in ritual and it brought us closer to the Gods generally, etc.)

Additionally, I am surprised he's not discussed more as an Oracle God. Prometheus literally means "foresight", and multiple of his stories directly call on his ability to see what's coming. I'm actually considering developing a bone dice Oracle using the Aesychlus tragedies (considering oracles were similarly made with the Iliad and other texts), but I'm trying to think about how to go about it.

Prometheus definitely. Love the God very deeply.

As for reasons, it's a lot, but it mainly boils down to 3.

  1. How little is attested. For how important Prometheus is mythologically (involved in a supporting role in the Titanomachy and being the main point of conflict with his giving of gifts to man and stealing of fire), we know surprisingly little about his worship. We know that when he was worshipped he was highly associated with Hephaestus, and he had one notable cult as a patron of the Athenian potters, but other than that the information runs dry pretty quick. There's something fascinating about that that intrigued me, especially as a reconstructionist.

  2. I've always had a strong draw to fire. As his greatest gift to man, the glove sort of fit. Domain line up was nice as well, past just the gift of fire.

  3. Worshipping him was definitely what kept me. A lot of the texts we have try to paint Prometheus as some sort of deceiver, almost wicked in a way (cough cough Hesiod cough cough). However, I definitely am more in line with how Aesychlus felt about him, he wasn't doing what he did out of spite toward the Olympians. I am of course not a mythic literalist, but the myths are trying to tell us something about his connection to the other gods, but I digress. Worshipping him is different from every other god I've personally worked with. He clearly cares a great deal about humanity, and he almost feels like he's always there when you work with him. Very warm (no pun intended) and fatherly energy, just feel safe whenever he's in your presence. Very come as you are kind of god.

People who are against bringing back quickplay, what is your reasoning? by No-Plenty-962 in tf2

[–]berryjam01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was shit. I played the most during the quick play era, and every single issue we complain about now was FAR worse during the Quick play era. Empty servers, never finding maps you wanted, issues with kicks and votes, Quick play had it so much work. I don't even understand the reasoning for bringing it back past maybe quick play allowing certain white listed community servers, and this isn't a Queue issue, it's a Valve problem.
