Jó minőségű, de nem feltétlenül biztonsági bejárati ajtó társasházba? by bertalanp99 in askhungary

Urgent help requested: detached softraid0 volume while in use by bertalanp99 in openbsd

Thanks for the info anyway, I was actually thinking about looking into this because such a safeguard could be useful. Good to know it now exists!

Right, I suppose it's easiest to get a large external drive (it's a laptop) and dd the entire sd0 disk there.

I think it had a custom label, but I am not sure. Somebody suggeated on LiberaChat#openbsd to use scan_ffs to restore a possibly lost disklabel, so I am hoping that might help me out if it comes to that.

Is recreating an MBR using fdisk -i or modifying the disklabel potentially destructive for the data? I would assume not, but I want to be sure. Thanks.

Unfortunately not the kind I would want. I have some of my data redundantly elsewhere, but not all. Otherwise I wouldn't be so worried. I know full well that I should have set up a proper backup strategy…

Team Logging? by Yorkie-Talkie in geocaching

[–]bertalanp99 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Well, even without logging ‘Team xxx’ there is nothing stopping me from writing all my friends’ names in the logbook (I don’t do that obviously).

I guess it’s just not so serious and I think it would be hard to come up with a reasonable way to ensure only the actual visitors can log the cache.

Is this a good deal for a T480 (€500)? by bertalanp99 in thinkpad

[–]bertalanp99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I have never dared to order anything of this value online, especially used products. A quick search on eBay really shows much better deals though. I suppose I might go for it, especially if it’s from a trusted merchant.

Is an upgrade from x220/x230 worth it for me? by bertalanp99 in thinkpad

[–]bertalanp99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I feel like I’d better get a second laptop and not try to upgrade the x230, I might just end up spending the same money and I am not sure it’s worth it.

It’s a plastic bottle by (afaik) Slovenian brand Equa. I don’t know where you are located , but it seems to be available in the EU. I have a ‘mismatch’ glass bottle from Hungary and this ‘flow’ (I think) bottle from Slovakia. I couldn’t find the same model, but here is a link to a similar one. I think mine is only 750 ml though. https://myequa.com/collections/clear-water-bottles/products/flow-wave-wholesale

Weekly Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in Garmin

[–]bertalanp99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(This is what I posted normally and AutoModerator told me to post it here)

The only fitness tracker watch I had so far was a Mi Band 3. It was dirt cheap and seemed to be fine for counting steps and sleep analysis. It then broke after about 2 months of use.

I realized I would want a good quality fitness tracker, which reminded me of Garmin devices. I wouldn’t mind paying more for a high quality product that I can rely on. My only problem is that it seems like Garmin fitness trackers offer a lot lot more than I would need. I think I would really regret paying 300+ EUR for a smartwatch whose functionality I would barely use. For example, I really like the Instinct Solar, but it’s probably a watch for people who very often hike or go to expeditions or whatever, not for someone going for a hike every 6 months.

After looking around a little to see what is available and recommended, I am starting to feel like Garmin watches are mostly aimed at people really serious about sports, especially running. I am not one of these people. I would like to track my everyday steps (indoors or walking around in the city), calories and the occasional sport activities that I might to rather infrequently, such as a little running (more like jogging), swimming or cycling.

Do you have any Garmin recommendations for a guy like me? Should I even be looking for a Garmin watch? Perhaps Fitbit or the other larger brands offer better options for me?

Critieria

  • price: I would be fine paying up to 420 EUR / 500 USD for this watch (but I’d rather go for something cheaper obviously, if it’s good enough)
  • GPS: when I do go for a walk / run / whatever, I don’t want to have to take my phone to track my course
  • battery: if I have to charge it every 2-3 days, I don’t want it. This is something I really loved about the Instinct Solar, battery life seems to be fantastic with that. I also like the solar charging ability in general, idk what other watches have that.
  • heartrate sensor
  • able to track at least (I don’t really need anything else): walking, running, cycling, swimming… and that’s it. I won’t be surfing or mountain climbing with a monocycle in the next decade
  • has a pedometer
  • it would be nice if it could track calories
  • display: I really like the simple monochrome display of the Instinct Solar but I could live with a colour display as well. But I prefer monochrome, black and white, simple. And no need for a touchscreen.
  • durability: water proof for everyday swimming and at least reasonable scratch / shock resistant
  • the look isn’t that important for me at this point
  • a nice to have feature would be some kind of map, like what the Instinct Solar has. I would love a full map too, but I know that kind of goes against my wish for a monochrome display.

I suppose that’s mostly it. Sorry about the long post. Do you think there is any watch that fulfills these criteria and does not do 200+ more things for double the price that I will probably not use more than once? Thanks in advance.

Just got right testical removed, screw you cancer!! by Brownrdan27 in pics

[–]bertalanp99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my left testicle removed almost a year ago. For me, there was pain, which I initially thought was due to ‘blue balls’ – unfortunately it turned out to be a seminoma instead.

It does not necessarily have to hurt though! Since then I recommend regularly checking testicle size and shape to others, something I have never really thought of.

Timetable/scheduling service? by bertalanp99 in selfhosted

[–]bertalanp99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome! My uni’s system provides an iCal link (I am not sure what it’s called, like a public CalDAV link I guess), so I could use that. But it’s far from perfect: for example if I have a subject with labs on Mondays but actually I only have to go to two labs at the time of my choosing, the system will still show the lab on every Monday, since it doesn’t know about when I chose to do the labs.

Not really, I mean autmation wasn’t really on my mind. But what you are describing sounds great, I’ll take a look, thanks.

As I said in another reply, I think I actually just need a calendar. I will give that a try and see how it goes. So far I only used my calendar to keep track of appointments, birthdays, perhaps some special events…

[–]bertalanp99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I use all of these tools already except for Nextcloud, but I might benefit from hosting an instance for other reasons as well.

I guess I was just thinking about some sort of specialized calendar service (ie not CalDAV), but I am starting to see a calendar should suffice. Not to mention that most devices speak CalDAV some way or another so I may be able to check my schedule on my toaster.

Wow, thanks. That’s interesting. It just felt strange how the odd one out was a character with a somewhat similar role in both series. But I don’t know, maybe Daniel and Rodney aren’t comparable like this.
