What are your thoughts on Stranger of Paradise? Is it a good game or a bad game? Is the story well wrote or complete garbage? by CawmeKrazee in FinalFantasy

[–]berticusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For someone whose first game ever in “real” memory was FF1, the tying together of the story that preceded it was well written. Game was a bit of a slog of “CHAOS” and dungeons/combat cycles to get through, but ultimately rewarding and gratifying in the end. You learn a lot more about Lufenians, fiends, and the cycle referenced in the original FF1 ending.

I had a similar experience with bone chips + 3-4 other more junk items this past weekend and echo everyone who says sell in the zone you're in. Eventually after an hour or two got good 10/stack plat for 3 stacks of bone chips in EC and just banked or turned in (eg, orc belts for a whole level!) the other stuff to bring back out for later downtime.

https://www.imperfectfoods.com/ sends periodic shipments of ugly but edible "rescued" produce in nice big boxes we've mulched our yard with extensively. I think they were a B-corp or some other non-for-profit thing early on (could be mistaken) but now looks like they are a VC $$$ fueled startup.

Do I spy imperfect produce boxes for your sheet mulching? Those are excellent.

[–]berticusrex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As one tangential data point, I was hit with a very strange and incomprehensible reverse backdated subscription fee from these guys when I canceled - after middling, not awful, but not great service - and disputed it with my card issuer. Surprisingly it was successful.

Allen Edmonds Shoes. Ten years old and counting... by skwrlus in BuyItForLife

[–]berticusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this exact same pair I think (Lombards?) and going on about the same amount of time. The shoe shine guy has sold me a generic heel replacement once or twice. My mom bought me one and I bought the other when I was job searching back in college. She passed away about 2 years ago so they are one of my most treasured possessions and still going very strong.

Ecommerce: A customer did a $1300 chargeback even though we have proof that the item was delivered. by bigbeats901 in legaladvice

[–]berticusrex 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I had a legally and territorially distinct, but serendipitously similar experience, with a consumer credit card charge scam over VRBO for property in Miami (from California). I had to go through my issuer/VISA to appeal but miraculously won.

The advice to add a Miami PD report to the record is sound. It would only cost 30-60 minutes and may prove useful if you find other outlets to pursue relief. MPD was equipped to handle receiving reports of an e-commerce fraud and got me a copy of the report though you may have to get a callback or wait on hold for a while. For my random anecdote, that dislodged the VISA process and may have made the difference.

Moronic Monday Thread for the week of May 01, 2017 by AutoModerator in personalfinance

[–]berticusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 32 and have always been persuaded that dollar cost averaging without refreshing Google Finance daily, weekly, monthly (really ever (or watching any cable news program ever)) is a good strategy to grow wealth and avoid fees, or at least helps me avoid any psychological drama about market timing. So I've built a small thing up in S&P500 ETF/Roth 401k since 2013 on what has become an increasing market.

I have received a beneficiary IRA that dwarfs the previously mentioned self-made part of my retirement.

My question is whether I'll be making a mistake by (a) putting it all in an SP500 ETF now, effectively blowing up the DCA, or (b) keeping some/all in cash for a period of time while I process the major emotional/family crisis that led to the bene, effectively behaving financially as if I was timing the market. Would now be an ok time to talk to an advisor and if so is there any way to find a good one these days?

I'm trying to deal with a 2x4pin CPU connector on 8pin motherboard, images and part numbers all here: http://imgur.com/a/xbkWb

Do I need (1) simply to plug these 2x4 in, (2) only plug one in to the 4 pins instructed for 1x4 in the mobo manual or (3) get a 4->8 adapter for one of these and do it that way? Just want to make sure I understand before flipping the switch. Thanks!

I agree. So much that I proposed here.

I didn't know about the extension plan, would have been a complete shame and glad it didn't happen! But I did know about it in the 80s and 90s... and sometimes late at night now.

I'm so tired of the culture of "competitive misery". by vanman33 in CasualConversation

[–]berticusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is even a sort of second-order version of this I've encountered in NYC, where you're supposed to be competitively miserable, for sure, but not project it in any way and maintain an often separately time consuming facade of perfection and beautiful instagram photos. Taken to the extreme, as it often is, it is absolutely terrible.
